LEVERAGE #515 "The Long Goodbye Job" Question Post
Rend garments, scream, yell and hug -- your last chance to harangue us with questions for the show formerly known as Leverage is upon us. I look forward to your thoughts. WARNING: MAY BE SPOILERS IN HERE!
That was quite a finale for a possible renewal so I'm assuming you guys had a pretty good idea this would be the end. For that, thank you for going out on top. I can't count the number of shows that have had unsatisfactory endings for whatever reason so I'm grateful you cherish your fans enough to go out with a positive note. It wasn't sad, just bittersweet. And the proposal was a perfect addition. Nate seems happy. Finally.
As for Sophie's real name, I'm betting it's still a mystery. I'm not sure how Nate knew it was Lara, so I'm going to assume he just made a guess, like he did back in season three when he was throwing names out there hoping one would stick. That would explain why Sophie told him he was wrong. Unless of course he did know that was it and she was just playing with him. I'm a little disappointed we didn't find out for certain what it is. Anyway, thanks for a great ride. Peace out.
Thank you for the proposal. They've been "courting" much longer than the 5 years mentioned and an official couple for 2 years. You've written them as comfortable and aware of each other's nuances more and more as time went on, as it should be. Bravo.
Try as I might, I can't figure out what / where those two buildings are. Can you give a sometimes Leverage tour guide a hint?
Scene: A snowy Christmas day, fire burning brightly in the living room fireplace, Leverage on the big LCD, family piled cozily around the room on various pillows and cushions, all watching the final episode with rapt attention.
I want to rescind question 7 on my previous post because I think I figured it out: that line is all a lie. That's just what Nate is telling Interpol Agent Casey to sell the story. Right?
TNT's canceling of Leverage was bizarre. Not that it was canceled - I've seen the numbers, it COULD be justified (even if I disagree with the decision) - but how it was canceled.
They moved it from a day on which it was making moderate but steady success to a new day, which almost always results in a ratings drop.
They keep quiet on the decision until just a few days before the finale, so much so that the promotional material couldn't even be adjusted to reflect that this was a series, rather than season, finale.
They denied the possibility of an ideal ending, which probably should have been a couple of episodes and had SOME promotion (many people didn't even know that this was the final episode!).
What's more, they did this to a flagship original series that had just been nominated for a People's Choice Award. It's absolutely strange.
Okay, just rewatched for the 3rd time and finally noticed the boat under the drawbridge as the van raced up it. I suspect that is where the crew is while Hardison RCs the van into the river, and Nate's waiting to go into the water.
BTW, I think there are a lot more comments here because people who would normally post on the TNT discussion boards are too pissed at them to log in! lol
First off, thank you for a great ending to the series. I would like to think Nate & Sophie still check in with the others occasionally and/or consult from time to time. Also, that they get together for special occasions and stuff.
Onto my question: Was Sterling supposed to have been in this season-ending episode from the get-go, or was he brought back when it was decided to do the series-ending episode? Just curious, since you've mentioned how difficult it can be to get Mark Sheppard on the show due to his busy, busy schedule. And thanks for doing so - it wouldn't have been an appropriate send-off without Sterling.
I'm not sure how long it takes you to get through all these comments, but I just wanted to say thank you for writing such a fantastic finale. It was absolutely beautiful and more than I could have ever imagined myself. All the callbacks were so great, and this show as a whole (not just finale/ep 1) did continuity SO well, that I will miss it and the characters as well as the writers very much.
Good luck on future shows/work that you put out. I know that I for one will definitely be looking out for what you and the others involved with Leverage put out next!
I do have one question, that is probably already mentioned. But before the decision was made to film this as the finale, what were you planning on the finale being? Was Leverage International going to become a thing, and a Sophie/Nate wedding/proposal later on?
Thanks for a great finale...just sorry to see it go. My questions:
1) in the beginning, Agent Casey says Nate was pulled out of the river. When Nate gives his real version of events...at least what I think is the real version...Nate fake-shoots Eliot to get it on film. So how does Nate ditch the cop uniform and get to the van to drive it into the river?
2) wasn't it a big gamble that they'd take Nate back to the Highpoint Tower? Or did he never leave it? (see question 1 as to if Nate was pulled from the river or not)
3) wasn't it a huge gamble that Sterling would be there to both let them into the server room and let Nate get away?
4) No group hug at the end???
I loved the call backs to the pilot episode. The acting was phenomenal, especially Tim. H deserves an Emmy. The character of Nate really evolved over the years. I was distraught in the beginning of the ep due to Tim's acting.....he really looked as if his friends died. Who knew Nate could act that well?
You and the entire production cast and crew have my utmost respect and awe.
Thank you all for taking your ideas and research and interests and turning them into such entertaining, educational and thought-provoking episodes.
Thank you for creating interesting characters and making them living people, with flaws and idiosyncracies that most other creators and actors could not match.
Thank you for the degree of fan-interaction everyone involved in this production has put in. The podcasts, the behind-the-scene photos, commentaries, twitters and even the Con Con.
With so many banal, boring, pablum shows being produced, Leverage has been one of the all too few shining beacons of excellence and we are all saddened by its passing.
Apologies if someone else has already said something to this extent, but it just occurred to me:
What if Lara IS Sophie's birth name, but when she said, "you know that's not my real name" she meant what she said earlier, how she finally feels like she's where she belongs. Maybe that also means she's finally realized she IS Sophie Devereaux and all that entails, so it's now her real name, even if it wasn't her original name?
I'm still ridiculously sad that you guys didn't get renewed, but that was a kickass episode to go out on. I love all the callbacks to the pilot, and I love where you left the team.
Thanks so much for five years of fun and excellence. You guys are the best.
Someone brought this up on Tumblr, but was Sophie's line at the end, the one about Lara not being her real name, a sign that she's come into her own identity as Sophie Devereaux and has found her home there?
Did Sophie know that Nate was going to propose to her? Did she figure it was going to happen one of these days?
Did the van really go into the river? They dragged Nate out, so how did the team pull that off?
How will Sophie and Nate spend their life together? Will they come back to visit the others? Will the team stay in contact? How well do Eliot, Parker, and Hardison do as a team?
Absolutely loved how Parker insisted Nate had to "say the thing!" in the proposal scene.
Parker as Mastermind was a little surprising, but one of those surprises that makes total sense in hindsight, so thank you for that.
1) So if you changed direction mid-season so that this could be a series finale, what direction did you originally intend for this season to take? Obviously the plot for the black book was laid in, but the theme of this season felt like it switched from 'building' to 'legacy', so what would a season finale have been like instead of a series finale? 2)So what would Leverage International look like? Because one thing that confused me - if they just dumped the info on the Dark Net, declaring open season on the evildoers, there's no guarantee the money would go back to the victims. Or will they establish a Tara like situation, with crews getting a cut of the payout, just glad for the opportunity to work with the greatest crew in the world? 3)What is the Dark Net? Second time I've heard the term this week, on two different shows, so presumably it's a real thing? 4) Am I the only one who thinks Sophie and Nate will get bored of retirement? Coz he's still an obsessive bastard, and Sophie's almost as compulsive as Parker at thieving, so as much as the thought of them playing Nick and Norah forever delights me, I can't help but think in 12 months time they'll be dropping in on the kids, or Sterling, or Bonanno, or anybody who'll give them something to do/someone to help. 4) How's Olivia doing?
What would you have done for seasons six and seven if you had not been canceled? I'm mainly looking for what kind of theme you'd be aiming for and how the Hell you were going to top that finale if given the chance.
Ooh, and when you are feeling extremely too stressed out or down in the dumps just remember this key bit of magic: in an alternate universe you are currently working on figuring out how to miraculously pull off the Season Six premiere and not kill anybody. Then there's the movie, the explosion budget and all of the other things you would have to do as an executive producer. Thank you again for such a wonderful show, Zee-Zee
Thank you. Thank you for 5 seasons - and not a single episode that I wouldn't watch again in a heartbeat! I honestly can't say that of any other show that's made this many episodes.
And what a finale! Your thoughtfulness in providing one (and one that doesn't kill future episodes/movies/fanfic/etc) is icing on the cake after everything else you've done for us. Even if I can't look forward to a 6th season, I am looking forward to the 5th season DVD commentaries!
The deaths were certainly shocking and so sad, but I have to say how impressed I am by the blood that actually spurts out of the bullet hole in Eliot's back as he slo-mo falls into the van. That was beautifully filmed.
Okay, the part you're really waiting for - questions!
How much time to do envision passed between The Toy Job and The Long Goodbye Job - weeks... month... YEARS?!
Other than wanting to be able to envision more jobs that include the entire crew, I'm just not sure that the Parker who would gravitate to the Baby Joy/Rage doll is the one who's ready to fill Nate's shoes as team leader. I feel like we had to have missed many episodes of her filling in (with varying degrees of success) for Nate (much as Sophie had done before leading the team full-time while Nate was in jail). Do you feel Parker was ready to take over, or do you think a lot of time passed between The Toy Job and this one, or that a lot of time had passed between Nate proposing to Sophie and the tag of the new Leverage Trio?
Or do you think the new trio is more of a cooperative - rather than 1 mastermind deciding the overall con?
And, please don't say "Whichever one makes you the happiest" because what would make me the happiest would be hearing which one would make YOU the happiest.
Tim was amazing in this episode - how do we get him nominated for an Emmy?
In the many (thank you!) DVD commentaries, you say "now that's a spinoff I'd watch!" many times - which one are you actually considering pitching as your next series?
One last thing, it's sad that Wil Wheaton never got another appearance in the show as Cha0s, but please don't bring him bacd in the Leverage movie just to attend the wedding of Nate & Sophie, at least not unless you get Frakkes to direct.
Thank you, John et al. Thank you for 5 seasons jam-packed with a good 15 seasons worth of material. Thank you for this blog, for giving us tons of writing & producing fun facts and patiently answering all our questions. Thank you for all the DVD commentaries. Thank you for all the long hours and all the drinking and the ConCon and moving the show to Portland and playing Portland for Portland, and for demonstrating that you didn't have to play Portland for Portland. Thank you for creating Nate, Sophie, Parker, Hardison, and Eliot and then for hiring the perfect actors to bring them to life. Thank you for letting Aldis get buff and for going in such a unique direction when casting a dorky computer nerd. Thank you for letting Beth jump off buildings and for giving her such complex emotions to play and for letting her physically ad lib the things that really brought Parker to life. Thank you for letting Christian do his own really dangerous stunts that you really shouldn't have let him do; thank you for coining the phrase "Fucking Oklahoma!" Thank you for getting Tim back onto screen in such a meaty role that he totally did justice to. Thank you for pulling Gina from the land of Coupling & Jekyll to show her off to a big world-wide audience (and for giving Sophie the chance to redeem her Shakespeare MacBeth cred).
Thank you for everything! I look forward to seeing all your names - the producers, writers, cast, and crew - in the credits of the great films and tv shows and whatever else comes next for you.
@msd You're right. However, I think people might have the feeling he was in the pilot because he has been in quite a few pilot episodes of so many shows, the most awesome of them being Firefly and White Collar. I think I'm at the point where if Mark Sheppard is in a show, then it's worth watching from the very beginning.
I'm gonna get my hands on the DVDs for sure and re-watch over and over and over, force my family to watch, force my future spouse to watch (this is no deal-breaker, yo), force anyone that had not watched to sit through every episode with me. I'd even promise to not say anything even though I'd most probably know the scenes by heart by then.
I'll need to watch again the last episode (oh how heartbreaking this sounds if you read it again) to fully comprehend and to properly "say" my goodbye to the characters that have been part of my life for 5 years, no exaggeration.
Thank you, John Rogers, for everything you did and still do, and for this blog where we can spit things out and not physically harm anybody.
After the Rundown Job, I was ready for a revamped Leverage, with Nate and Sophie off somewhere sipping wine in a villa or sailing the world, while Eliot, Parker, and Hardison took on bigger, less grift-y, more action and in your face international jobs. Then, The Long Goodbye Job set the stage for exactly that! Are you and any of the rest of the executive team working to develop and market THAT revision of the show? Because I think I'd like that even more than the original Leverage.
1. We know Elliot started out a decent guy and somewhere he went wrong. Is his fall to crime like that of Simon's from Burn Notice?
2. How much debate was there on who should be in Nate's chair at the end? I agree Parker was the right choice as Elliot would scare people and Hardison would improvise the speech to much.
3. One of my older favorite shows "The Pretender" got a few movies later. Any possibility of a movie or a spin off?
4. I thought it funny that the plan in this job depended on Sterling NOT being a complete utter bastard. Is this a way of saying Nate and Sterling aren't so different after all?
Thanks so much for this show. It became my favorite show, and set the quality bar so high I find almost everything else on now boring. The writing, acting, and production of Leverage was always top notch. This is the only show I have ever bothered to hear all the commentary for. In commentary and podcasts you mention "The Rockford Files" a lot. Well sir this is my Rockford, and I'm looking forward to see if this show inspires others the same way.
And as for this episode, I wanted to punch you, shake your hand, and have a drink with you in that order.
As with the others a huge thank you to cast & crew for putting out such a fantastic show as this one. Thank you as well for the blogs and Q&A posts. The blogs which gave a really good behind the scenes on how these shows come together, without totally killing the magic of tv/movies and the Q&A help when sometimes I just missed something, or was particulary dense on a plot point. My questions for you are: 1) So was the sick boy job a total fabrication then? I was confused when it seemed to never come up again. 2) When did Sterling know what was going on? When Nate bumped him I got the impression that they were in on the con together possibly. Was Nate helping Sterling not see Parker, Hardison, & Elliott or am I reading this scene incorrectly? Again thank you so much for giving something fun to watch.
Thank you so much for producing one of my favorite shows of all time!
If there were a season 6, would our team as we know it come back together? How?
Parker in season 1 was 'insane' (ex stabbing a guy with a fork, announcement to passengers as a flight attendant, lighting a trash bin of paper on fire in The Bank Job, etc). With Parker as a mastermind, did you imagine any 'insane' moments for the Leverage team? Would she turn to Archie for anything?
Parker seemed more subdued as the series went on (especially thru season 5) - was this a completely conscious choice? I missed Parker who would say&do ridiculous things.
1. Love the look Hardison three Elliot when Parker started stripping in the elevator. 2. Just noticed how Nate was reflected in the mirror when the cop showed up in the lobby of the building and how he was reflected in the mirror as well. 3. When did Sterling realize it was a con? My guess, when Nate shoved him around outside the server room. 4. So how many call backs to previous episodes where there? 5. How many different voices did Sophie do! 6. Why's is her real name?!?!? 7. I hope someone picks up the Elliot/Parker/ Hardison spinoff? 8. I would also settle for a movie. Hey, Firefly did it. Have Kane call Joss and pull a few strings.
Thank you to you and the cast and crew so much for such a wonderful show. You drunk bastard. I omit the lying because you've never lied to your fans. You let us in your mind...as scary as that place is....and you and the cast has made us a part of the crew. It's a shame that TNT doesn't realize what they had...a great show that was fresh and smart and funny. I will miss it as will all the rest of us Grifters.
How does Nate and Sophie's wedding pan out? I assume that if there was a movie, we'd probably be watching the wedding. Who would be in attendance besides our favorite OT3? Would they end up pulling a con on the wedding day? Because I think they'd all secretly like that.
Thank you for these 5 years, it was a wonderful ending.
It's not only the entertainment factor, it's also that while watching one could porject and see all those rich and corrupt and guilty people finaly paying. We all know how that works in real life. And now we won't have the fictional world where someone made things even.
Thank you all so much for a wonderful 5 seasons. The death scene in this episode heart wrenching and beatiful. The way they held reach other. And the scene wher Eliot says to my dying day and how he thanked Nate for helping him find what he had been looking for. Heart warming. I hope this series finds a new home with Eliot Hardison and Parker it could be great, I think everyone was expecting to see Eliot as the matermond at the end. Well played. Lets us hope you find a new home to continue this wonderful saga. What is on tv today is sooo bad and this was the best series ever. I will admit I cried when they died and cried at the end with the eath of a series that I loved. Best wishes to all cast and crew to a wonderful job well done for 5 years. I find it unbeiveable that you were cqancelled to lower ratings, I just do not believe that. Your following is so strong. I have wathched the Long goodbye a few times more with on demand and still cry. May God Bless all you. Hope to see you all soon again either on another network or maybe tnt will wake up to what they have lost. What are your future plans?
Iloved how some of the scenes were like the ones from the first episode. It will brought it full circle. I hope everyone stays in touch with each other seems like there really was a bond made with the actors and crew. The death scene was well there are no words to describe how heart wrenching it was. Please find a way to somehow get levergae back on some network. The rundown job laid the foundation for Eliot Parker and Hardison it would be great if somehow it continues. Where the cast members broken hearted when the series was not renewed? THank you for the wonderful eye candy(CK) and for letting him do all of his own stunts even though at times he paid a price for it. It just showed what a dedicated actor he is. Love that man. All I can reaaly say is that it was a very DISTICTIVE series and DAMMITT TNT
I had heard that in one epidsode Christian broke his nose. Is that true and what episode was it if it did happen? Best of luck to everyone at Leverage. We will miss you
My mother is *so* mad at you for making her think that everyone was dead.
Now, STORY TIME!
Yeah, so, once upon a time there was this woman who wrote a blog about a comic book, and the comic book writer linked to her page so she went and started reading his blog. And he said, "Hey, I got this little pilot picked up, I think you people might like it." So she looked forward to this little "Leverage" show and told everyone she knew to watch it.
And then the show packed up production and moved to that woman's adopted home town and spent four years showing off how beautiful Portland really is. Even though her office was not only Dubai, but also Maryland.
And then the show got canceled and there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth. And maybe some fanfic. Maybe. Probably. A lot of fanfic.
But anyway, thanks so much for your stories and coming up to PDX and giving me something I could actually talk about with my parents. That's pretty rare these days.
How did Sterling know that the team was going to pick Nate up, and not the prison? His note said, "Tell Sophie to drive carefully." However, up until that point he had to guess Parker's location and kept getting surprised and one-upped. At what point did he realize exactly what was going on with the escape?
I've heard rumors that there won't be a season 5 DVD. Is that true? When will we know? I'd hate to not have the entire series.
I loved the nods to the first episode. And, I almost cried when I thought everyone was dead. You had me on the edge of my seat.
I loved all five seasons. The entire Leverage team might be responsible for keeping my boyfriend of six years and I together. During the times when we didn't agree on much, we agreed on Leverage and watched it together (even if we didn't talk for the rest of the week).
My husband and I are currently re-watching The Nigerian Job, because of reasons, and I have a question. Parker, when pretending to be IT, said 'have you tried turning it off and on again?' Please tell me that was because of the show The IT Crowd. And if it wasn't, well, it's still super funny.
Okay, so I watched the episode again, and i have a new question. There had to have been a real crash because there was a crash site. And Nate was apparently pulled from the river semi-conscious. He had a very real cut on his face. So, did Nate actually put himself in harm's way for that con? Seems like pretty serious danger. It surprises me that Sophie, Eliot, Hardison, and Parker would be okay with that.
I will have to come back and make an appropriate post to express my love and appreciation for this marvelous show (and crew and cast) ...once I sort out my many, many feelings.
Having rewatched the pilot as a beginning step in my grieving process, I have a question I don't believe has ever been answered.
Okay, so in the very first seconds of the show, Nate is sitting alone at the bar before Dubenich approaches him, and the bartender tells him "I checked - airport shuttle's in 15 minutes."
This means that Nate had made a request about the airport shuttle, right? So, WHERE WAS HE GOING? What was our future Mastermind's original plan that day?
(And where does that scene take place, by the way? I had always assumed Chicago, but I realized on this latest rewatch that although Hardison lives in Chicago (or at least has a place there) Nate does not (Dubenich's day-after phone call awakens him in a room littered with empty hotel minibar bottles))
1. Call-outs to the Nigerian Job I caught: - Entering the target building from the top where security's weaker - Parker's leather cap - Eliot and Hardison refer to Parker as "20 pounds of crazy in a 5 pound bag" - Nate directing events from an adjacent building with a headset rather than an earbud, in front of a projection screen - Sophie's dreadful performance from Macbeth - Parker getting changed in the elevator as the boys turn their backs - The final overhead shot of the crew - The client scene at the end parallels the one from the pilot in appearance and blocking, with Parker delivering the same speech Nate previously delivered
Anything I missed?
2. Leverage International = Batman, Incorporated? I'd be interesting in seeing a pseudo-variety show, focusing a few episodes at a time on different Leverage crews. A good excuse to bring back other characters like Quinn, Archie, Chaos, and Tara, as they each start up Leverage-style teams elsewhere around the world.
3. Was there anything at the end which was cut? I find it hard to believe that after five years, none of the crew would hug or even shake hands after Nate and Sophie decided to leave. I was already tearing up, but a good emotional hug scene would have made me blubber like a baby.
That was an amazing and perfect finale. Couldn’t have asked for a better send off. The plethora of emotions in just the first 15 minutes was phenomenal!
The homage to various scenes in the pilot episode was well done, and a sweet touch.
Tim Hutton in the opening scene..extraordinary acting, without saying a word..just his expressions struck me with emotion. Hats off to him and to you all!
I just have a few questions, what was the reaction from the cast during the table read through of this episode?
How difficult was it in filming the last scene of the whole team (shown in the episode) especially with its significance? and was this the actual last scene all 5 of them shot together or was it a different one?
Lastly, I just want to say many thanks for the great 5 seasons. We hope Leverage will continue in another platform someday, but if not, it will continue to live on with the fans who have opened their homes & hearts to Leverage over the years. All the best!
Devlin just tweeted there'll be no Season 5 DVD? WTF!!??? We can't be robbed of everything! I think you don't quite understand the impact that show had on so many lives, you can't see devastated people in various Facebook groups, who are voting in 12 hours shifts, trying to keep name Leverage up, who are contacting networks, and doing everything possible to keep Leverage alive. Please, don't give up - movies, series, novels, this JUST HAVE TO CONTINUE!!!
You created a monster - don't let that monster to turn around and bite. Don't give up on us.
John!!! There has to be a Season 5 DVD! Right? Please? The international fans can't purchase them via itunes due to unavailability :( This is just heartbreaking :(
What would be the issue with Season 5 DVD availability? Money? If that is the issue, can't you guys set up a fundraising site? The fans would not only buy the dvds but I'm sure we would donate to help get them produced/distributed as well.
I know you must be tired by now… but, please, don’t pout and keep reading! I became very fond of your way of dealing with this new media thing and interacting with us, fans.
The show runners/businessman/tech must find a way to properly charge a show around the world, allowing people to still watch it live. Nobody wants to wait to see anything nowadays and any content is easily spread. There seems to be a market failure preventing supply and demand from matching at a viable price. Hopefully it will be solved in the near future. As an economist, I can relate to issues like market assessment, etc. What I definitely can’t understand is audience and ratings (once again, there seems to be a need to change the measures these days). To me, Leverage is one of the best, if not the best, show out there, fun and thought-provocative. You raised the bar. I must say I discovered it a bit late unfortunately, but caught up and fell for it immediately.
Although I’m already missing you all and wanting a 6th season badly, the finale was brilliant, with superb performances. You definitely made the right call. This last episode was like a matryoshka, plot inside plot, misdirection and twists. Loved all the nods to previous episodes and the way we could confirm how much the characters had grown…
1. Please let Gina know it wouldn’t be as brilliant without Sophie pulling off accents and con characters. Sophie is my favourite and I especially enjoyed she was settled with directing and her acting well on stage, even if it was still a con. Though I would bet she would be pleased to be back on the game soon, I’m glad her patience and her “friends with bennies” con (or was it Nate’s con on her?) paid off.
2. Also, please let Gina know that tweeting Sophie’s real name was Lara… best con ever! Loved it! Was it on purpose or she didn’t know? I mean, did you shoot two scenes, her name was really Lara in one and it wasn’t in the other and she didn’t know you have decided for the latter? Or Sophie’s name was Lara after all and she was just teasing Nate by denying it? It didn’t sound like that to me… And I think I’m okay with not knowing her real name. Her mystery goes on!
3. Nate using a story so close to his son’s to pull off a heist… is that for reassuring that, although he will never forget, he learned and made peace to what happened to his son?
4. Justice or order… you will have to choose one… Do you truly believe it? I kind of do, but I still think it’s a sad world whether we cannot have them both going on together. I'm being naive, probably?
5. I’m worried about this rumor that there won’t exist a 5th season DVD box. I’m Brazilian and I ordered Seasons 1 to 4 from Amazon USA because I wanted the extras (actually I’m having a friend from North America to buy them – almost 100% of import fees… argh!). It’ll be a pity not having the complete series. This is only a rumor, right?
6. Could you please do lots of commentaries/ gag reel on the 5th DVDs (assuming there will be DVDs)? Especially, could you please get Ms. Bellman to do lots of commentaries?
If I was a bad guy, I would be afraid… mastermind Parker… scary!!! But I must say it would be hard to me to enjoy Leverage International without Sophie/Nate. It would be just another Mission Impossible. I would rather have a Mrs./Mr. Ford show with lots of smart dialogues, misdirection and an inside look at human nature.
I never believed you would deliver a sad ending, so I wasn’t too shocked by the first scenes. Anyway I’m thrilled with the finale. There are too sadness in the world already, no need for more at the ending of a show. Thank you for bringing us some joy!
I’ll certainly miss Leverage. 77 episodes of excellence! I’ll be looking forward to following your (and the cast/ crew) new projects. Thanks for the ride and best of luck you all!
I have a couple of questions. Is Gina pregnant? When did Tim and Gina decide to leave the series? Was that a blood capsule used on Eliot to show him bleeding from the mouth? Is there a chance that another network could pick up the series and if so would the crew and cast be interested in doing it? Thank you
First, I must thank you so much for this series. I started it from the beginning and have loved riding this with you to the end.
The finale was perfect, and I'm ecstatic you had the foresight to shoot the finale the way you'd always planned.
*~*~*~*~
After the finale, how do you think the characters would have lived out the rest of their lives? Obviously Nate and Sophie would have gotten married. Would Parker and Hardison ever have gotten married? Would Eliot finally find someone? Are there kids in any of their futures? Would weekly and/or monthly team dinners have occurred?
If Fox doesn't want to give us our DVDs, how about a Kickstarter project? You've gone out of your way to make we the fans such a part of Leverage, this could be our way of showing you just how much we appreciate that, and how much we love this show.
Okay we were the mark! The con was on us. Brillant. I enjoyed being the mark. Now let's go steal another network so Leverage will be back on tv. WE love you guys and the wonderful work you did in bringing us this series. Let us hope to see you soon on another network. Hey it worked for Psych ( not a program I watch) sooooo maybe it will work for you.
Well, I was a bit delayed getting to this one and there are a few more comments than usual, so I apologize for not reading through them first. Assuming you even reach mine, sorry if I'm repeating.
Best. Episode. Ever. Best series finale ever. Seriously fabulous. Great character moments. Great full-circle moments. Great twists. You managed to both kill everyone and give them a happy ending, which is remarkable and just satisfying all around.
So was Laura her real name after all? You can't use "whatever keeps you watching" as an excuse anymore, sir!
Seriously, loved it, sad to see the show go but what a way to end.
I haven't got any questions this time around. I just wanted to say thank you for a satisfying finale. It was beautifully done from beginning to end and the care and love that went into it was evident. (You're a rat bastard for the whole cancer red herring but I forgive you). I hope the cast and crew realize how much we've enjoyed bringing them into our lives, albeit in proxy form. Leverage brought a bright spot to my dreary work week and I appreciate it deeply. I'd give you a hug if I could. And please keep us apprised of those pilots you were talking about.
Like everyone else I am sad to see Leverage end. At least you gave it a proper send off. Good job on the series everyone. I hope that it does come back in one form or another. But, my firt last question... I remember hearing you say that Sopie's real name would be revealed and that it would be obvious. Maybe I am dense, but at the end she said Laura was not her real name. What is Sopie's real name?
Lori, that was the Broadway Bridge in this ep, NOT the Steel Bridge -- the steel bridge is dark black-gray; the Broadway, red-rust. The Steel bridge also doesn't part in the middle; the entire middle section lifts.
To add to my previous comment -- I went back to check and I see why folks would be confused.
I realized during a rewatch (while trying to figure out what was real and what was just Nate spinning a tale to throw off Interpol), that the bridge scene has some continuity issues.
(I used to live in Portland on the west side of the Willamette just north of the Fremont Bridge -- the one with the gorgeous white arch that you've shot early and often in the last few years.)
When Nate and Sophie are first shown in the getaway van with the other three dying in the back, they are clearly headed south on the east side of the river because they pass a grain elevator on the east side (with the west hills in the background on the other side of the river.)
Then they turn onto the Broadway Bridge (red-rust) heading west toward the hills. However, as the van goes over the bridge, the STeel Bridge (grey-black with towers on each end of the liftable span) is shown on Nate's left (south of the Broadway). A couple of seconds later, the aforementioned white Fremont bridge (north of the Broadway is shown on Nate's left. Then the Steel shows up for a couple of seconds more, before ending up with the Fremont behind the scene where the van stops right before it goes off the bridge with the boat underneath.
So you shot it from both directions?
(you shouldn't try this in Portland where most of the bridges have very, ahem, distinctive designs)
No DVDs? No DV... This can't be happening. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse.
The only solace I've had is the thought of those DVDs, and the care you've always seemed to put into making them.
To hear they won't happen almost feels like you're abandoning this last season, and in a way, the fans. I know that isn't the reason, but it feels that way. Knowing that I won't be able to complete the collection, knowing that I won't be able to share it in it's entirety with someone else -- it's disappointing.
Please, let us know if there is anything we can do to make those DVDs happen.
Hi, this Season Finale was finally worth Leverage! I love the similarities to the very first show. If all other episodes in Season 5, 4 and 3 had this quality, Leverage would have run forever. I guess there were two big mistakes made which some gamemasters at roleplaing make: The ideas weren't coming (ther was no budget for some cool story?) and the characters got too fast too powerful.
So all I have to say: thanks for the great idea, thanks for some great shows, thanks to the crew who did their best. And thanks for this great last episode. Leverage had an ending which it deserved.
This question isn't about this episode but I've been wondering about this for awhile. Is the flashback at the beginning of the series supposed imply that Parker blew her foster parents or just blew up their house?
This question isn't about this episode but I've been wondering about this for awhile. Is the flashback at the beginning of the series supposed imply that Parker blew her foster parents or just blew up their house?
Since everyone around me is tired of listening to me cry about the cancellation of my favorite show, I decided to read old posts and comments. So I have a non-episode specific question:
Let's say the team finds themselves trapped by wargs in the Misty Mountains. They climb a tree which begins to fall off the cliff. There is nothing but air on one side and wargs led by Azog, the Pale Orc, on the other.
While Parker lights pinecones on fire with her taser for Nate and Sophie to throw at the wargs and Eliot fights Azog with nothing but a shield made of an oak branch, could Hardison find a moment to create a virus with his smart phone that would destroy the computers of all spammers?
Still haven't watched the first 20 minutes yet, but I think Sterling was in on it from the start. The way he kept emphasizing Nate's team dying and all, I think he was doing that to get Casey to buy in to the con. That doesn't mean I think Sterling was on the team's side, just that it was a pretty big favor Nate called in and a pretty big favor Sterling owed him for saving Olivia.
Question 1: Does Jonathan Frakes make a cameo in each episode he has directed? I have seen him twice and just wondered...
Question 2: Is there some inside story to the car license plate 186KVE? In seasons 1&2 is was always Nate's car and it often gave you a clue that the team was involved when you saw that license plate going around a corner but in later seasons it was on all sorts of vehicles - mob guys, Chaos' van, bad guy in the experimental job etc.
Request: Any way the production blog videos can be made available to view in Australia? I very much enjoy the podcasts (especially the Island of Misfit Jobs - so want to see the Canadian Mountie scene!!) and would really like to see the production blogs as well.
A Thank you: To all the cast and crew - I have only known about this show for about seven months and it feels way too soon to lose it already. Our whole family watch together, not many shows we can do that for. A big thank you to those that produce the soundtrack - the music is amazing - themes, incidental tracks, songs, everything...
We are up to the Rundown Job here in Australia so for a few more weeks I get to look forward to new episodes.
Just finished listening to the podcast about this episode. Best. Podcast. Ever. First off, the sound was SIGNIFICANTLY improved and the volume was good. Second, it answered nearly all my questions. Thanks to Kayla and Paula and John and Chris for doing this. Check it out!
I want to let you know that as sad as I am for season six not being in our future, that was the best series finale I could hope for. The ending with Parker, Eliot, and Hardison "inheriting" the job and Parker acting as Nate - I loved it!
I also LOVED every detail that reminded us of the pilot and I loved the "death" scene in the van. Hardison asking "did Eliot make it?" and Eliot's "age of the geek, brother" was... wow, very moving. I loved it! Parker holding hands with Eliot and crying over Hardison was great too.
This was a beautiful finale. Thank you so much for it. I welled up in the van (when Eliot said "age of the geek, brother" there may have been ugly, ugly crying) but even more so when Parker gave that final speech (UGLY, UGLY CRYING.) Thank you so much for a show that's given me so much hope and joy over the last few years, and so many new friends.
The fake out scene (PLAN M, ALWAYS MY FAVOURITE) was done beautifully. Were there any more heist-movie staple moments that you never got the chance to do that you wish you had?
I'll pretty much watch anything and everything you write from here on out. Is there anything you're working on/pitching at the moment you can tease us about?
Finally, thank you so much for Nate/Sophie being endgame! As one of those crazy slash fangirls you bait endlessly (and thank you for that!), I didn't go into Leverage expecting to ship anything. I fell in love with Nate and Sophie's dynamic, and it being canon and endgame and a glorious proposal at the end? My heart did a warm fuzzy 360. My ship was canon, and it sailed full-sail, and thank you so much. ♥
The actual question first: what is the best way for fans to express gratitude that would lead to you (and the rest of Leverage staff and crew) getting more gigs/money/whatever it is you need to continue doing awesome shit or (don't dare hope) a new incarnation of Leverage? Buying the DVDs? Spreading the word? Naming my cat after Parker?
And: Along with the very first episode, this has probably been my favourite episode of the whole series. There was a sense of suspense, of possible failure, that the previous episodes were starting to lose (I know, I know, light crime show). And then the tie-ins to the first episode, most notably our dear Lady Macbeth. You've gone and made it come full circle in all sorts of ways, and this is great storytelling.
Would I want to see more of Leverage? Of course I would! Especially given the changed dynamic, with Parker's, Eliot's and Hardison's roles changed, and Nate and Sophie married. I would LOVE seeing them pull a con during the wedding. But if this is indeed the end, it couldn't have ended any better.
From the very first time I watched the pilot and thought, this is like Shadowrun, like Firefly, like all those light con movies I love - it has been an extraordinary ride. Thank you.
By the way, I know you guys said that the thing Sophie wrote on the paper in the HoHoHo Job in Season 3 is not related to her real name, but after re-watching the HoHoHo job, it looked like she wrote something similar to Lara. So was it Lara that she wrote back then? But then again, Lara isn't her real name. Sorry, just thinking aloud here :)
Love that your female interpol was in the X-files (season six, Trever). I was stoked. Also, I'm sad the show is gone but happy it ended the way you always imagined.
Are we ever going to get Sophie's story?? I mean, can you just tell us a few things here? What could it hurt? We've seen all the eps, it won't harm our viewing of them. Pleeaasssee.
This goes back to the end of "The Low Low Price Job." In "The Two Horse Job" Eliot was from Kentucky, so when did he move to Oklahoma? I still can't believe there will be no more Leverage. I will miss your sense of humor.
Just to be annoying and nitpicky, when Nate said Lara, the first thing I thought of was the scene in "The Inside Job" (love that episode), where Nate and Sophie are able to get into Parker's warehouse because the code for the key pad is Sophie's real name (according to Sophie). But what she enters in the keypad is six numbers and then the # sign. So, either Sophie was lying to the others back then, or Sophie was lying to Nate about the code, or Lara's really not her real name and we still don't know, or the sound effects guys put in too many beep sounds when they worked on this episode.
Thank you for a great show. This last episode almost made me cry with that one scene (you know the one I mean, you're a bastard for making me care so much), and laugh with all the references to the first episode.
Joining the chorus about a spin-off with Parker/Hardison/Eliot. The Rundown Job is a favourite of mine.
Thank you John, as well as Dean Devlin, Chris Downey, Tim Hutton, Gina Bellman, Beth Riesgraf, Christian Kane, and Aldis Hodge for the past five years of 77 awesome cons. Your show was my "therapy" against a rough work week. I've been in several fandoms, and yours is the only one that regularly communicates with fans. Dean once said he was glad we came to play in y'alls world. So are we. ConCon drew back the curtain and I never wanted to leave. Social media was such a boon for the show and the sharing by your and Beth of words and pictures always made me hungry for more. I guess it's best to leave the table wanting more than being stuffed so that you're uncomfortable. What I'm trying to say is that while I will miss this show deeply, it went out with a big bang rather than a whimper.
Questions: 1. What did Eliot say in the van to Hardison? I couldn't make it out.
2. You said that you are looking for a distributor for the DVD for season 5. Maybe we could Kickstart it? I love commentary tracks and love the story behind the scene (which is why I love this blog).
3. Is Hardison keeping the brewpub? (I loved Sophie's aside about missing Portland)
4. I've read the first novel, The Con Job (which I liked), and will read the others as they are published. Are there plans for any more or are publishers waiting to see how these do? Do you have creative control/ approval over storylines?
Thank you again, and I look forward to seeing what next comes out of your pen/computer and onto a screen.
*a virtual glass of whiskey raised in your direction* "cheers!"
After rewatching I have to say that I have no idea how the crew got from the van to the coroner van and Nate got from fake shooting Elliot to driving the van and being pulled from the river. Did a scene get cut somewhere or did they switch out before the real police were called in to chase the van?
Firstly, I adored the nods to the first ep! lovely little touches all over the place. And the momentary re-do of the Roshomon Job with cop!Nate, I should have caught that! I was kicking myself.
You had me going with Hardison falling at first, but then all three? and the total Thelma and Louise moment? I felt like I could breathe again! I was worried for a second though that you were going to say "fck it, rocks fall, everyone dies". thank you for not doing that.
Question: when Sterling showed up, it felt like there was a second conversation going on. Was Sterling aware that Nate was planning on leaving? His line about “those in charge need to stay in charge” seemed weightier than the surface conversation. Did you guys plan that out? And furthermore, Sterling basically letting Nate win, the ONE TIME he could have had the one-up on Nate, seemed very giving. So did he agree with the job, or did he know that Nate was leaving? Or both?
And SERIOUSLY? You STILL don’t let us know Sophie’s real name? I call shenanigans.
Thank you again for five AMAZING years! You guys have all put so much work and love into this show and into this fandom. We’ll keep the candle burning. (hey, I’m a Browncoat too, and we managed to get a feature film out of enough years of hope; it CAN be done!)
Hardison knew Nate was leaving and taking Sophie, right? What else cold he have thought Nate meant when he said "all good things come to an end, Hardison." Also Hardison must have helped set up the mood lighting or whatever it was he did with the remote right before he proposed. Alsoooo, why did they need to keep this a secret from the rest of the crew? Why they were in Portland, I mean. What's the worst that could have happened if they knew? Try and talk him out of leaving (assuming they figured that part out)?
Loved the finale. I wish that the hard-drive data transfer had been a seed planed earlier in the show but, whatever. You can't have it all. Well done. Better than the X-files finale.
This was a truly amazing episode to finish the series on; thank you so very much. It's excruciatingly sad to let go of Leverage, which was my consistently happy place for last five years, and the shiniest, loveliest, sweetest tv experience. Thank you, thank you, thank you, and I wish you all the luck in whatever you choose to do next. With all possible love.
I came into this episode not knowing it was the last one, so hadn't had time to come to terms with that fact. But even without that preparation, I was left at the end feeling completely satisified. *That* is the way to tie up a wonderful, wonderful series - the characters have grown and changed, some are moving on to other things without breaking the sense of family that the show has engendered.
I tip my hat to you, Mr Rogers, and to all concerned in bringing this programme to our screens. Thank you for so many wonderful episodes, great characters, and so much laughter along the way. Thank you also, very much, for all your time and energy expended talking to us here.
On a slightly different note, thank you for providing a thoughtful, 'safe' space - when watching Leverage, I never had to brace myself against misogyny or racism, and I can't think offhand of another show I could say that about.
In gratitude and respect, wishing you all the very best for the future.
Well. I had to watch the show later (MUCH later) and here it is nearly 300 comments in. About 98% of what I want to say is agreement with all previous positive comments, and disagreement with negatives.
To the person who said, approximately, "if Leverage had been this good through S4 and S5 you'd still be on the air," let me say that that's an impossible expectation. It's like saying "hey, if every time you'd had sex with your spouse it had been as good as the greatest sex you'd ever had, you'd still be married." That just doesn't happen.
For those who missed Chaos or Tara or Maggie, I say: What more do you want? This ep was deliciously full of goodness already! If TNT had given them an hour and a half or a full two hours for a finale, then sure... would have been huge fun to use Tara as a "Leverage auxiliary" whom Sterling did not know, for example... but I digress.
For those who can't stand the notion of no more Leverage, let me add this: Come on, every TV show ends eventually. (Yes, even Dr. Who will end.) And Rogers and Devlin are now going to go on to create *another* show that we will all hope will never end. Of this I am more than certain - If I wasn't, I'd be canceling my cable subscription right now. Er, well, except for the forthcoming S2 of _The Newsroom_... :)
Seth: Hollywood's creative types do have to keep themselves not just at arm's length from, but on the other side of the wall from, unsolicited ideas. You should be aware that the last showrunner who did anything like this level of social networking with fans of his show (J. Michael Straczynski re. _Babylon 5_) had to stop reading (and therefore responding in) the B5 Usenet newsgroup, due to the large number of story ideas being posted there by well-meaning fans. There was just too great a chance of something similar to some poster's idea turning up in an episode, followed by "you stole my idea!" accusations. He needed to be able to say, truthfully, "no, I don't read the newsgroup."
We don't want John Rogers to have to make a similar decision here. Now it is true that concepts like your "the Leverage team goes to Mexico, causing some team members to do things they wouldn't otherwise do, like carry guns" are both vague enough and obvious enough that I doubt their expression here will be an impediment to anybody, it's a slippery slope... so I think it's best to refrain from posting story ideas. Just my opinion.
I wanted to take my time before coming and commented. Needed to let it sit a bit. I, like everyone else, sincerely hope Leverage lands somewhere else, with a network that understands how to support it. USA, perhaps, or, better yet, Showtime/HBO. (Hell, even Starz.) Or we get a movie. That said, this was a great way to end the series.
1) How much did Sterling know? Clearly he knew he was letting Nate drive off with Sophie, that much was obvious, had he figured it out sooner? We know he was in the team's debt. And as you've always stated, Sterling isn't the bad guy.
2) Parker being in charge makes sense, in a crazy kind of way, and the rest of the team will be able to function like that, but it seems like this is now a crew short at least one or two pairs of hands. Would they staff up?
3) Obviously, Nate took the painting of a very young, very nude Sophie with them, but did he leave Old Man Nate in the office?
4) With open season on all the bankers and privateers who ruined the economy, if you're looking for the movie, clearly it should be "One Last Score" to take down the wealthiest of all of them, and fund their retirement nest eggs again, which we know they're ALL blown.
Thanks again, John, and I hope Leverage continues to live on. It's easily been my favorite show in years, and I'm one of the people fighting to make sure we get season 5 a proper release. Hell, if they want to gouge me a little more, they can release the complete series on BluRay, and I'll pay up...
1. How canon do you consider the Leverage books? 2. Had the show gone on would we have seen more Eliot/Parker? 3. Post S5 finale, how likely is it Parker and Hardison would have eventually broken things off and she would have gotten together with Eliot?
I'm extremely happy because of those novels - I can't wait to get them all. Please, continue with that, I'm sure there's many writers who would be happy to write it.
That is something you can really GIVe to your fans, and continue to keep Leverage alive. Fan base is growing as we speak, you know?
I like to think that when Sophie said "You know Lara isn't my real name, right?" it was a coy way of saying "I still want you to call me Sophie. That's who I am now." Is that right-ish? Or were you just trying to leave it open in case of a new season.
Also, are they just gonna kick back and be normal people now? Or are they gonna go work for Sterling? I thin you know what they fans want to hear but... yeah.
Also, can you please please please give us a little insight into Sophie's character now? Just tell me what was going on in The King George Job? And what was Gina's understanding of how Sophie got into the biz. That's it. That's all I need to know. Just those two... major things.
Dean Devlin revealed that if the show possibly did get picked up, that there was an alternate Nate and Sophie ending to when they were walking to the door and that that scene could possibly make it into the 'extras' part of the S5 DVD. If the S5 DVD doesn't come out for what ever reason, would it still be possible to release that scene so that the fans could see it?
As someone who loves the commentary tracks, and knowing that you've recorded them for season five yet have no distributor, would it be feasible to sell them on Amazon Instant Video and itunes? Yesterday I went back to the first 3 episodes on season 1's DVD and caught your conversation with Dean about digital media being the future when you are talking about play time of episodes (pilot is longer than a broadcast length). I know I'd buy the commentaries that way if that was the only way to get them.
And after watching it many times, I realize that Eliot says "age of the geek" in the van. What prompted that choice for Nate's story (I know we already got a "dammit Hardison" but still....
Just thought of another question here, John. Have you guys always envisioned Nate and Sophie getting married one day? Have they always been the marrying type or where there any discussions among the writers if they will ever get married or just be together?
I guess you know that if I am here amid these 306 comments I don't expect an answer. I wrote The Fan Farewell and now am continuing to promote anything I can find about Leverage. My latest article has gotten almost 300 comments; the most I've ever had. I am bringing this up because I asked the question "Feature Movie or TV Movies" for how Leverage could continue after TNT. I wanted you to know about the huge response. http://tvfilmnews.com/leverage-lives-on-and-theres-more-to-come/
Now that Leverage is over, can you dish on all the unaired details, like Nate's sister and Hardison's Nana? What about the details that were kept secret, like Sophie's past and why Tara owed her a favor?
I just read The Con Job. Putting Cha0s and Wil Wheaton in the same location was driving me crazy. Anyway, what kind of involvement did/do you have with the tie-in novels? Are they totally canon? (The book claimed that Nate owned McRory's, but I though Cora owned it. It also said Nate and Sophie were in a relationship at that point, but I thought that didn't happen until after the season 3 finale, after when I believe the book takes place.)
I have a few lingering questions from throughout the show.
First, At the end of season 2, how was Tara able to escape so easily, why couldn't the rest of the crew follow her way out, and why didn't Sterling seem to even notice that she'd gotten away?
Second, Why did Hurley know the team's real names when he reappeared? When he left the first time, he still knew them by their aliases. How much was he told? Also, Peggy still knows the team by a different set of aliases. Isn't that bound to cause some confusion as they get to know each other?
Also, Sterling and Maggie are now both presumably single, and Maggie even admitted to being attracted to Sterling. Is there anything keeping them from trying to date? Would Nate ever be okay with it?
I keep thinking of more and more questions. How did Sterling get away with kidnapping his daughter, whom I assume he did not have custody of? How does he manage to raise her on his own while being an Interpol agent?
I'm confused about the ending of season 4. If Dubenich and Latimer survived, what kept them from going after Nate again? If they didn't, Nate practically set them up to fall off the ledge. He was counting on it. How is that any better than killing them himself? We never really see the outcome of that finale...
Why did you have the crew attract the "attention" of the CIA agent and then never have anything come of it? Was it a discarded plot thread?
Is there a reason you had three separate jobs involving food/agriculture companies? Lillian Foods in The Top Hat job, Wakefield Agricultural in The Inside Job, and VerdAgra in The Hot Potato Job. The latter two seem especially similar.
You took a lot of liberties with the D.B. Cooper Job. Wouldn't there have been an actual chief investigator of that case? How do you decide to make such a bold claim that it was one of your fictional characters?
I'm pretty sure Lara is supposed to be Sophie's real name, for real. You said Gina got to pick it, and that's what she tweeted it was. So why oh why did you have that line about it not being her actual real name?
If the story continued, whould the crew finally refer to Sophie as Lara, or would there be some in-universe reason for them to keep calling her Sophie?
Parker was shown to live in a warehouse. What did she do for running water and electricity? How did she cook, bathe, etc? You said Bunny never leaves the warehouse, but wouldn't it have to when the crew moved?
Gosh, I could just keep on asking questions forever. But I'll stop here, for your sake. Sorry if any of them were already asked.
Thanks so much for all your excellent work, and for (hopefully) answering my questions. Leverage was literally my favorite television series of all time. I'm not even exaggerating.
Wow, this is pretty interesting. Inspiring, as well. Thanks for sharing such inspiring experience with us. Great blog, congrats.! Mens indian wedding outfit
I am just hoping that as you put Season 5 on DVD, that you put the episodes in the order that you intended them to be shown, not as TNT (:P)did. Hoping against hope that another network picks up the show or a Leverage movie. Thanks!
Am I the only one to notice that at the beginning of the Long Goodbye Job they weren't going to make a cure because it wouldn't make enough money. Is that why there won't be a season 5 dvd or even a season 6? Was it an attempt to prick the conscious of greedy TNT? I love this series and hate to see it go. Its the only one were i actually bothered to buy all the seasons of. I usually just buy my favorite episodes.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 400 of 420 Newer› Newest»That was quite a finale for a possible renewal so I'm assuming you guys had a pretty good idea this would be the end.
No one seems to have commented on this, but it seems obvious that Gina is pregnant again. Unless it's just the wardrobe people...
Scene: A snowy Christmas day, fire burning brightly in the living room fireplace, Leverage on the big LCD, family piled cozily around the room on various pillows and cushions, all watching the final episode with rapt attention.
Never before, and never again.
Thanks again!
1. Is Lara a Tomb Raider reference?
2. Was she kidding when she said it was her last name?
3. Sophie's not bothered at all by Nate essentially choosing retirement FOR her instead of making that decision together? I know I would be.
4. Will they really stay retired forever? Had the show been renewed, would Nate and Sophie have returned to the team?
5. Do you see any more Leverage content ever being produced in some capacity? Is that something you're interested in taking part in?
Congrats on five awesome seasons, and thanks so much from a devoted fan.
I just finished watching the Series finale.
Thank you all.
Oh, hey, guys, thought.
Y/N?
Okay, here is my question.
Thank you again for such a wonderful show,
Zee-Zee
Best wishes for all that you do!
One more question and one more comment.
Q- What name will Nate call Sophie/Lara behind closed doors?
C-I don't believe Sterling was in the pilot. He showed up in "The Two Horse Job". I think people somehow remember him in the pilot.
@msd
You're right. However, I think people might have the feeling he was in the pilot because he has been in quite a few pilot episodes of so many shows, the most awesome of them being Firefly and White Collar. I think I'm at the point where if Mark Sheppard is in a show, then it's worth watching from the very beginning.
I can't do it. The finale is on my DVR but I can't bring myself to watch it. Gah...
Love from Indonesia.
since i didn't see anyone else post this...
anybody noticed that Pallagen lab was the same company they took down in the Double Blind Test Job? :)
I've got great drugs, do you want some? - Parker :D
A few questions and a comment...
Would Hardison's nana approve of Parker?
Thank you so much!
Rewatching....a few thoughts...
Thank you.
Diane
It seems that the Leverage team actually one-upped Interpol and Sterling when they did steal the black book. What happened to Sterling Never Loses?
How does Nate and Sophie's wedding pan out? I assume that if there was a movie, we'd probably be watching the wedding. Who would be in attendance besides our favorite OT3? Would they end up pulling a con on the wedding day? Because I think they'd all secretly like that.
Thank you for these 5 years, it was a wonderful ending.
It's not only the entertainment factor, it's also that while watching one could porject and see all those rich and corrupt and guilty people finaly paying. We all know how that works in real life. And now we won't have the fictional world where someone made things even.
Luckily there's rewatching.
Again, thanks.
It was amazing television.
My husband and I are currently re-watching The Nigerian Job, because of reasons, and I have a question. Parker, when pretending to be IT, said 'have you tried turning it off and on again?' Please tell me that was because of the show The IT Crowd. And if it wasn't, well, it's still super funny.
@Annoy O'sum
Here's an incantation for you...
"Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn."
Oops, not Buffy Season 8. Call of Cthulhu.
;)
Okay, so I watched the episode again, and i have a new question. There had to have been a real crash because there was a crash site. And Nate was apparently pulled from the river semi-conscious. He had a very real cut on his face. So, did Nate actually put himself in harm's way for that con? Seems like pretty serious danger. It surprises me that Sophie, Eliot, Hardison, and Parker would be okay with that.
What's this rumor going around that S5 might not get DVDs? How could they do that? Who should we direct our ire at?
Why isn't Leverage available through iTunes internationally? Not even earlier seasons.
WE HAVEN'T MET NANA YET!!!!!
1. Thought I read somewhere that there'll be 2 marriages?
2. Also, if season 6 finally shows up, Nate & Sophie will not be there?
3. Laura or Lara??
This episode is too fast-paced for me. My head can't handle it *sobs*
Need to rewatch, I'll come back again. Here goes my weekly dosage of Leverage.
By the way, really curious on how seaso 6 will start if it happens to air again :)
1. Call-outs to the Nigerian Job I caught:
- Entering the target building from the top where security's weaker
- Parker's leather cap
- Eliot and Hardison refer to Parker as "20 pounds of crazy in a 5 pound bag"
- Nate directing events from an adjacent building with a headset rather than an earbud, in front of a projection screen
- Sophie's dreadful performance from Macbeth
- Parker getting changed in the elevator as the boys turn their backs
- The final overhead shot of the crew
- The client scene at the end parallels the one from the pilot in appearance and blocking, with Parker delivering the same speech Nate previously delivered
I just have a few questions,
what was the reaction from the cast during the table read through of this episode?
How difficult was it in filming the last scene of the whole team (shown in the episode) especially with its significance? and was this the actual last scene all 5 of them shot together or was it a different one?
Lastly, I just want to say many thanks for the great 5 seasons. We hope Leverage will continue in another platform someday, but if not, it will continue to live on with the fans who have opened their homes & hearts to Leverage over the years. All the best!
Georgina
Right? Please? The international fans can't purchase them via itunes due to unavailability :( This is just heartbreaking :(
I just came over to ask about the DVDs and obviously several folks have beaten me to it.
That would be a grievous insult to the fans to not produce a Season 5 DVD.
LilithMM1
Thanks!
If Fox doesn't want to give us our DVDs, how about a Kickstarter project? You've gone out of your way to make we the fans such a part of Leverage, this could be our way of showing you just how much we appreciate that, and how much we love this show.
Putting our money where our love is, as it were.
I NEED MY DVDs!!!
Wait, no season five DVDs? Seriously?
But I like my shiny discs!
Super Late in the game for this post, but we're playing catch up.
General s5 question: If we came into Hardison's "Backstory" with ep 101 does that sort of make him our POV character?
Is Hardison our Kitty Pryde?
So amazing! It was a perfect finale with all the nods back to the pilot. It was great to see the show come full circle. I will miss it so much!
I only have one question, but even if you don't have an answer, a "we never decided" suits me just fine.
Is Parker her first or last name? (and question 1.B)... What's her other name?
Goddamn. If the show had to end, this was surely the episode to go out on. Well done, sir.
Thank you so much for five wonderful seasons and five fantastic characters.
No DVDs?
Hi,
this Season Finale was finally worth Leverage!
I love the similarities to the very first show.
If all other episodes in Season 5, 4 and 3 had this quality, Leverage would have run forever.
I guess there were two big mistakes made which some gamemasters at roleplaing make:
The ideas weren't coming (ther was no budget for some cool story?) and the characters got too fast too powerful.

Two general questions, a request and a thank you.
some question
1. Were chris and beth nervous about the db cooper job
2. If there were a season 6 of the show if another network picks it up will there be new team members?
3.Chris/Beth and Tim/Gina have wonderful chemistry will you ever consider a leverage mini movie?
The actual question first: what is the best way for fans to express gratitude that would lead to you (and the rest of Leverage staff and crew) getting more gigs/money/whatever it is you need to continue doing awesome shit or (don't dare hope) a new incarnation of Leverage? Buying the DVDs? Spreading the word? Naming my cat after Parker?
And:
Along with the very first episode, this has probably been my favourite episode of the whole series.
I'm excited to see what you work on next.
This goes back to the end of "The Low Low Price Job." In "The Two Horse Job" Eliot was from Kentucky, so when did he move to Oklahoma? I still can't believe there will be no more Leverage. I will miss your sense of humor.
Based on Christian's hair, what's the intended order of the Season 5 episodes?
Questions:
Thank you for one of the best shows ever on television, and one of the best series endings ever!!
June.
Thank you, John Rogers, Dean Devlin, _et al_.
Gina Bellman tweeted something along the lines of "5 seasons, 3 weddings, 1 baby." I know the baby was hers, but who were the three weddings?
WE STOLE A PCA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Now, Let's steal a network!
John - you are an utter/onery bastard.
You played us for weeks and weeks and I completely fell for it.
Loved it, loved it, loved you. Even though you made me cry.
Well played.
Again. Thank you for five glorious seasons.
I wanted you to know about the huge response. http://tvfilmnews.com/leverage-lives-on-and-theres-more-to-come/
If you would've been renewed, would this ep have still aired or would you have kept it in he can for a year like Joe Strazinski did wih Babylon 5?
I say this with all love: You are an evil bastard. That was amazing. While I hate that this is the end, it felt like a fitting end.
And I'd like to add my voice to the call for the occasional Leverage movie.
I counted 5 copies of the Lady MacBeth scene. How many actresses and how many different scenes was that, actually?
Wow, this is pretty interesting. Inspiring, as well. Thanks for sharing such inspiring experience with us. Great blog, congrats.! Mens indian wedding outfit
I am just hoping that as you put Season 5 on DVD, that you put the episodes in the order that you intended them to be shown, not as TNT (:P)did.
Hoping against hope that another network picks up the show or a Leverage movie. Thanks!
I'm so glad Leverage is winning and being nominated for awards even though TNT decided to be an idiot.
But you know you spoiled the results...
...we know Mark Sheppard will win the Saturn Award for his role as Sterling. I'm pretty sure Sterling's inability to lose has seeped into Sheppard's.
Just had to say that :D
Am I the only one to notice that at the beginning of the Long Goodbye Job they weren't going to make a cure because it wouldn't make enough money. Is that why there won't be a season 5 dvd or even a season 6? Was it an attempt to prick the conscious of greedy TNT? I love this series and hate to see it go. Its the only one were i actually bothered to buy all the seasons of. I usually just buy my favorite episodes.
leverage season 5 dvd is cool ,and now i am watching the game of thrones season 4 dvd and castle season 5 dvd ,they are awesome.
