Oh, I had my little snarky rant. Go here for Steve Gilliard doing some of the best political writing -- mainstream media included -- on the current situation.
O.K. Call me paranoid, but i'm begining to see the plan as being somewhat two pronged.
1) George admits to all kinds of misdeeds and takes (sorta) responsibility for the Iraq fiasco. 2) the majority of the electorate doesn't see that he's trying to deflect attention off of the court cases of his cronies and the mid-term election coming up. 3) By accepting blame for himself, he makes it harder for the Democrats to tar the incumbents with the same brush. 4) Impeachment is being bandied around increasingly. But it will never happen as long as the GOP still holds the majorities. That's why all this is breaking wide now. It could be that this is an attempt to game the impeachment system, so that he gets off with censure under a GOP majority, thus making his ouster in the case of Democrat majority nearly impossible. He could get drunk, do donuts on the white house lawn, Shoot a child in the head, and screw the corpse in front of 50 witnesses and the Dems would still find it impossible to oust him.
Oh please God. if you're listening, we need Iron-clad un-spinnable proof.
FYI - That article wasn't written by Steve Gillard, but by Glenn Greenwald on his blog. Steve posted it and attributed it to Glenn. But it is an outstanding essay and I hope is read by as many people as possible
All right then. The way I see it is that two things should occur. 1) The President and his staff and cronies should not be impeached but committed as dangerous psychopaths never to see the light of day again. 2) The grassroots of both parties should stand up in their district when it comes time to confirm candidates and shout in unison- "My Grandmother could do a better job than you" and summarily dismiss all incumbents as screaming yabos, replacing them with just about anyone else.
Better plan: rather than elect ANYBODY other than the incumbent, let's stop trusting crap-weasles to run the country. I don't know who said it but they were right. "Politics is about the manipulation of the environment. When you abdicate your part in the political process, you allow others to control your environment."
I know, i plan to get involved for the interrim election. I'm enough of an Alpha to be unable to trust other people to get it right anymore.
That really is the central question. Bottom line. I know that a lot of folks just don't think this is a "real" war.
If we are indeed at war, then the President has far greater extra-Constitutional powers to worry about than whether or not they are monitoring your phone calls to suspected terrorists.
If indeed, we are at war, then there are a few dozen people who need to be in jail, immediately, for compromising national security; and some smaller subset of those who should in fact be tried for treason.
I personally doubt that this information to the NYT was leaked out through the NSA. CIA? Members of Congress?
Oh, please God, if you're listening, we need iron clad, unspinnable proof-- followed by long, long jail sentences.
Despite the fact that I thought about this specific "opportunity", I picked not to incorporate it in my past articles since I really trusted that a great many people thought about it. usacheckcashingstore.com/san-diego
