It's good(especially the one riot scene where Simms forgot to bring a weapon) but it's not "40 bucks for 16 epis" good. 25's about the upper limit unless it has two commentary's per track and extras out the ass like SPACED did.

ReplyDeletePhillip Glenister is a-FRICKIN-mazing. I LOVE Harvey Keitel and think he's a power house of an actor but nothing could live up to Phillip Glenister's Gene Hunt or John Simms' Sam Tyler. I never thought I'd be able to see John as anything other than The Master from Doctor Who but he sold me in the first episode.
Have you watched the sequel, Ashes to Ashes?
I hope John comes back to Doctor Who before David Tennant leaves seeing as I plan on crying myself to death when that happens and wont be around to watch it anymore. :(

WORD. This is easily one of my most favorite shows of all time. It introduced me to the amazing talents of John Simm and the very awesome iconic character of Gene Hunt. I'm almost sad I hadnt seen the sweeney before I watched this cause I'm sure I would have enjoyed it that much more if I had. everyone needs to watch this! (and ashes to ashes! which is not as perfect but twice since it's set in the loud and colorful 80's and it's even more surreal and bizarre than LOM was)

I actually agree it's crazy high, I wanna say it's worth it but I refused to pay that price and instead ordered from UK amazon. I live in the US and it was still 20-30 dollars cheaper to import the region 2 dvds over here than to buy them from US amazon. since they are really cheap down at the UK amazon (like I'm talking 8-9 quid)

Personally it's just as good on a computer IMO but it depends on the person.

ReplyDeleteIf you're a big fat geek like Rogers or me, you're nuts to get one of these things. They sell 'em on the internet, and you just tap in a code once, and it'll play DVDs from all over the world.
And then, a few months after you've gotten one, you'll be well into the second season of Ashes to Ashes, the sequel series to Life On Mars, with even more Gene Hunt.
The brits have the nihilistic balls to properly end the show, unlike the cop-out explanation of the American version.

It felt enough of a poor copy of former glory to me that they should have gone with 'Never Let Me Down' as a title instead.

Awful, film-student type film. Which is a shame, because the premise had a lot of potential. In the hands of better writers/directors etc it could have been great.

Well, I liked Tuesday XD. It was a nice bit of fun. No masterpiece for sure, but I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the cowboy nicknames the heist team went by. I enjoyed seeing simm&glenister together again. I enjoyed the fact that they let the black guy be the brains of the operation. I also liked the twist which was not groundbreaking but not as totally obvious to me as it was to CatChester. It depends on the person though. I love heist films like insane amounts. I even watched the original italian job from the 70's. and I'm a huge fan of John Simm. So it was enough to make the movie enjoyable for me.
ReplyDeleteAlso I loved Ashes to Ashes S1 and S2. alot of people say S2 is way better but I loved both. S1 is more loud and crazy and colorful and S2 is better written, darker and grittier, and puts Alex in less ridiculous outfits.
A close friend of mine did the DVD menus. He spent many nights doing unpaid overtime (without being asked, I might add) just so he could do his favourite TV show justice. Now that's dedication.

ReplyDeleteSecond the Ashes love, even if I've only seen the first season. It certainly went a lot crazier than LoM, but I thought it worked quite nicely. And I respectfully disagree with @Anonymous Bosch above; Keely Hawes was brilliant in that role.
