i like the dark stuff since that's where timothy hutton and christian kane shine, but the fun, lighter stories give the characters of parker and hardison great laugh-out-loud moments (gina bellman, like sophie, adapts to any situation and delivers). also, i enjoy when the characters are caught out and have to think fast to keep their covers.
all in all, i am digging the show. i wish i were writing for it :-)
i guess if i have a question, it is this: is jonathan frakes the most underestimated and undervalued director in serial television? :-)
Ok, I got three questions. Uno! Last week's questions, you mentioned "a habit that gave us a great moment last year when one of his US prosecutor friends said, essentially, "Holy shit. That would work ..."" - which con/episode was that?
Zwei! Also from last week "That said, there's a lot of improv-ing, and we use quite a bit of it." - is that why there's so many deleted scenes of the same scene from the Homecoming Job on the DVD?
San! At various points there have been mentions of names for other cons (apple pie and cherry pie come to mind) - do these really exist, or are they just things you guys made up on the spot (and if they do exist, what the heck are they?)
Mr. Rogers thank you so much for doing this. I follow you on twitter and I know how busy you been and the hours you've been working. But this is such a treat and we love you for doing it! =^..^=
I was wondering if you could elaborate on the comment you made in the Leverage #202 Tap Out Job post answering Jason's question regarding watching a show later than the air date on Tivo.
How is an average viewer counted, and how can one help more?
I watch the show anywhere between 1 day and 1 week later on a Comcast DVR in California. Does making sure I watch it within 24 hours help out in some way?
Regarding ratings information... this is exciting as I actually have information that is useful, as I'm a tv research monkey (for a small cable network that is not TNT - just had to get that out there).
When you watch a show on DVR within the same day that it originally airs, it counts in the Live + Same Day, which is the number that is generally used in press releases when a show's good numbers are being pimped in the trades or mainstream press. Sales groups will also use it. Live+7 data will give you more bang for your buck, as that includes viewers who watched the Live viewing (i.e. no DVR), the Live + Same Day viewing and up to seven days following. However, it takes around 17 days for that data to become available, so it's hard to use for press stories. Digital streaming (legally anyway) is taken into account, but to a much, much lesser degree, as many, many fewer folks get their television viewing from that means.
Of course, as someone mentioned, if you're not a Nielsen household, it doesn't really matter when you watch.
Also, LOVE the show. It's my can't miss show of the season.
It's Wednesday (Leverage Day) and I've got the day off, which leads me to wonder why if an episode is already ready to air and is most definitely sitting in a directory on the server a link can't be posted to it now rather than later? What's the difference, other than helping/hurting me with this boredom affliction?
Hardison might be my new fav.(And I'm a die hard Eliot fangirl) He was so great and funny in the episode. lol and the bit where Eliot made a comment about Hardison being a virgin literally made me spit out my coke from laughing. haha!
On to my question... Are the 2 FBI agents going to be a recurring thing in the show? I thought it was brilliant how they were brought back in. They threw a total wrench in the plan yet it seemed to work out better in the end.
Also the whole love connection between the younger agent and Parker is just plain entertaining.
Great show, great writing, great everything. I'm totally hooked.
Interesting that they are more than just a team but Sophie didn't seem to have any one she wanted to confide in about her break up. Although, I can't picture which one it would have been. May be Elliot. Other than issues with people's virginity, he seems like he could be a good listener (not much for advice, but listening ... yeah!). If you would have her confide in a team member which would it be and why?
Great episode, as always. Top notch acting from the entire cast and a really interesting episode in the sense that it seemed less focused on the con than usual. My question is, does Parker realize she's flirting with the FBI agent or is it just her natural feminine allure that attracts him? Because in the deleted scenes she seems to have trouble with the ol' wink and shimmy.
Last week, Eliot got a B-plot; this week, Sophie got an even better one, because it was both integral to the A storyline and its own thing as well. Loved her scene with the boyfriend at the beginning and every scene she had with the kid. Also, the dead thing on Timothy Hutton's head really *was* distracting, I do not blame her.
Was she eating a lot as a pregnancy-cover-up planning point, or was that coincidence?
I must pick one nit: public schools have school boards. Private schools have, if anything, boards of trustees.
I loved the episode tonight so much. Both the return of the scene change via zooming through the screen, and the return of the low tech blueprints made me giggle (points to Frakes for that?). And the cross-conversations were pretty damn brilliant this time.
The only problem is it didn't leave me with a lot of questions... Hm... What is Eliot supposed to be reading at the beginning at the beginning when the team gets together and Sophie isn't there?
Part of me wants to ask if Sophie's line at the end (essentially choosing to remain Sophie) was an indication that she was going to abandon the realization of why she couldn't connect to people... But... I'm going to trust you guys instead. You haven't let me down yet... And your commentaries have proven that you care about this stuff, even if because of time constraints things need to be cut. Still, I'm hoping to see more development for her!
Ok, I'll go with a question: Nate seemed a bit uncaring about Widmark...Jobs over, time to go, don't worry about the kid...which is a bit...different for him from season 1.
Is it just how the story played, or is this more of the Dark Nate story?
And again, the team really needs a beagle...just sayin'
LOVED this episode! It was so great to learn more about sophie. I remember you stating in an earlier post that both Sophie and Nate would be having some realizations about themselves. Also it's nice to see Sophie not a play seductress once for 4 straight eps now. Very nice change of pace.
I have one question though. Will we ever learn Sophie's true name? (assuming it's not sophie)
Also, Nate's character this week made me laugh every time he appeared. Hutton is amazingly versatile I must say.
This season just keeps getting better and better. Only four episodes in and you've already shown both how far the characters have come and how much growing they still have left.
Also, is that "put me in a dress" line is going to come back to haunt Hardison?
Great episode! Two questions, for the moment, but I know I have more:
Is Sophie's eating a way to cover up the baby weight? I'm guessing she won't be preggers on the show, so why all the eating?
Was Tim Hutton's German professor a riff on Danny Kaye in "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" with some Dr. Strangelove thrown in, or am I just reading too much into things?
Oh, and what's with all the orange clothes? Expanding the orange soda joke?
I like the way they dress in dark grays and blacks when they're themselves and put on colorful clothes as part of the con personalities. I'm assuming that's intentional, right? Will they wear brighter colors as they become more comfortable with each other?
Tonight's ep was terrific. Aldis Hodge just keeps getting better and better. LOVE him. Everyone keeps talking about how dark the show's getting. Hmmm. I'm a Supernatural fan; darkness is relative, no?
I like how Parker is continuing to shadow Nate, though I think it's pretty clear that she's not quite ready for the meet and greet with the clients yet. Poor girl!
I do have a question: How much fun did Chris have shooting the scene with all the kids? He looked like he had a lot of fun, and the kids did too.
Anyway, thanks guys, for putting together such a great show for us!
Another excellent episode, as always. I'm very much enjoying this second season!
I've noticed that a lot of the team are starting to take jobs that are outside their normal "roles" as the series has been progressing. Will we see more of this as the series matures and the group begins teaching each other how they do what they do so well?
And on a slightly related note, I want to say that Leverage has really helped out my Shadowrun game, as the cons they pull are great primers of how to do it myself.
I had a dream where I was a mark on Leverage. I had embezzled billions of dollars from a soup kitchen--an extremely high-class, gourmet soup kitchen, apparently--and was going to escape to Russia, because of their solid extradition policy. But then I glimpsed Parker, like, watching me in the street. So I confessed, immediately, because I knew the jig was basically up. But Eliot still beat me up, I don't even know why. D:
Anyway, good episode! My questions are as follows:
1) I understand how Sophie's many identities and her inability to reconcile herself with nearly all of them was a focal point of this episode, but it seemed like the boyfriend mentioned in the pilot was shown only to stir up old doubts within her. And break up with her. I get that there's a thing between Nate and Sophie, but Nate's a brilliant train wreck, and I feel Sophie deserves to explore her options more before getting back into that agonizingly adorable "will we or won't we" limbo with Nate. Also, and no offense to the actor, but her ex was just not that hot. (That was actually pretty offensive; sorry, actor!) So? Is there someone better in the cards for our Miss Sophie Devereaux?
2) Speaking of things between characters: Hardison and Parker were getting pretty chummy in this ep. Are they ever going to actually, you know, hook up? Or will it become this miasma of unresolved sexual tension? Or will they hook up off screen? I admit I'm conflicted about this.
3) And hey, what's up with Eliot? He's a good looking man, and a man's got needs! Or so I've heard. He's got no one to have that kind of chemistry with on the team. Which makes me sad in my heart. Are you going to ease the sadness in my heart?
4) What was up with that odd double take that Sophie did at the end? She seemed quite taken aback to see the mark's family at the clinic. I understand she was surprised, but she seemed as if her world view had been fundamentally altered. Why was that? THE END
Loved the episode and the season has been great so far. 3 separate questions actually - first is longest in setting up.
I've noticed that all the characters except Hardison (unless I'm forgetting) have had episodes where they had "emotional" kid interactions.. and specifically done something 'important' to help one or more kids. (I know Hardison had a hand in helping the orphans, but that seemed to be something he did more for Parker than for the kids).
So, is there an episode in the pipeline where Hardison does this?
Was Eliot's reply to Hardison - "You're explaining why you're still a virgin" - scripted?
Loved the kids "tackling" Eliot/Christian at the end of the martial arts instruction .. how did THAT come about?
Thanks for taking the time to read our comments and answer fan questions :-)
hi again..just wanna say that i love the episode, actually i love them all..
i have a question, why does almost all of the characters say "seriously" in their lines? especially Hardison.. is that significant or sumthin? jus treally wonderin.. =)
i don't want to seem like copying everyone, thing's i had to say have already been !!! but...
Did luv Elliot's remark to Hardison...Parker and Hardison in Bright color's with the FBI, again. Elliot with the "fighting" in the back ground...and of course, the tacklin'.OMG...
To tell the truth...almost forgot what the con was about this time around...could it have been the margarita and the "smoke'em if you got'em"? hahaha! nothin' differant!
LOVE this show everyone:)..keep up the wonderful job, for many more season's to come, i'm hopin'... one more thing, and i do thank you for takin' the time for these too ! When will the next 8 start airin' in Dec?
Don't hate me, but this was my least favourite episode so far. It bordered on slapstick and while i enjoy the humour in Leverage, it's usually more intelligent humour. The jokes in this felt rather jarring.
I know Nate's characters are usually over the top, but this one was so OTT and out of place it threw me out of the story every time he was on screen as the headmaster.
On the plus side, Sophie's storyline was great, it really helped humanise her character.
And why couldnt my gym teacher look like that? I might have tried a li'l bit harder ;-)
I thought this episode was great and more @ the level of the 1st season. In the 1st 3 episodes Parker was funny but this time she was back to the "doesn't know how to fit in" funny (& it was great!) I'm noticing a trend: Rogers; Devlin; Frakes; Berg combinations seem to be the best episodes.
This was probably my favorite episode yet, and I seriously love them all. It felt like the first season again, but - incredibly - even more awesome.
One question - has Sophie always been aware that she's not a great actress (or at least, that other people don't think she is) or is it a recent realization?
Headmaster up and leaves in the middle of the school year because a random foreigner shows up gushing about his grad school thesis? Reeeeeeally. Hardison's line about the bees and honey was worth it, so ok.
Hardison and Parker get caught by the FBI guys manning the house arrest and it just happens to be the ones from "The Wedding Job"? How conveeeeenient, Mr. Frakes. Whatever - make Taggert dress like Gerald Ford and PROMISE me that the Cake Maker of Kiev is real and I give you free passes for the season.
Are there going to be any more "hedge fund manager screws over everybody" stories? 'Cause that's, like, so March 2009.
And by the way, because you need to hear it - an excellent show, one of the best on TV currently and for some time now. Gushing complete.
First, have to say that Nate's character in this one was absolutely hilarious! A bit overboard, but funny all the same.
Question. I was a little disappointed about Sophie's boyfriend getting so little screen time. I was kind of looking forward to a showdown between him and Nate. Is that all we are going to see of him?
I also missed the flashbacks! Where have they gone?
Forget Eliot vs. a bear -- Eliot vs. a class of fifth graders made me laugh out loud. Sophie's distracted "shhhh!" when Eliot's life-or-death fight with the assassin threatened to interrupt Widmark's play was pretty hilarious, too. And I loved the return of the sweetly clueless FBI guys; I'd forgotten that they also showed up at the end of The Bank Shot Job.
My question: How much fun did Ms. Berg have writing the lyrics to showtunes about bread mold?
I love Hardison and Parker in neon-yuppie clothes. That was definitely one of the highlights. Oh, and Hardison calling Parker "Binky".
My question is, how much more Hardison/Parker unresolved sexual tension (on Hardison's part at least) can we expect to see this season? And does it bother you that more fans (or so it seems) are shipping Eliot/Parker?
Parker and Hardison as FBI agents are one of my favorite things about the show, so I am always happy when that occurs. And to have those other FBI agents show up again was the icing on the cake! I love the little crush the younger one has!
Also, that kid broke my heart! I wanted to reach through the screen and give him a hug. Great casting.
My favorite episode so far this season. I love that Leverage got to do a musical episode without really... doing a musical episode. If that makes any sense at all.
Was it tough to cast Widmark, or did y'all have a pretty easy time of finding exactly who you wanted?
Could someone take pity on me and explain the Rev-eah Claw reference re: last week's episode. I imagine I'm being thick, but it's driving me up the wall.
This episode was really funny. Couldn't stop grinning the whole time. :D
It was great to see the two FBI guys again. I'm just wondering if they are going to be in the show again, and perhaps causing problems for Parker and Hardison, because they know them.
I thought this episode was very good: I've been enjoying the season but until now, felt you hadn't quite got back to what you wanted the show to be. This is definitely getting back to the heights of S1.
Kudos to Frakes for the direction and Berg for the fabulous script. The scene with Sophie shushing Eliot during his fight scene had me giggling helplessly. Lovely, lovely insight into Sophie too, and beautifully played by Gina.
I have to add to the compliments paid to the child actors. That's the second ep in a row where the children have really shone. Is there a drama school in Portland supplying these kids or are they coming up from LA?
Didn't quite buy Nate's German prof, felt it was a smidge too OTT, but it didn't matter, it worked for what it needed to work for.
Yeh, definitely getting back into the groove with this one, great job all round ;)
I love the show and it is on of my few appointment shows, aside from Daily Show.
That being said - I was expecting a much better con to take over the prep school. The ruse to get rid of the teacher, and the angry parent mob in the stairwell? I know I'm going to sound like those fans who complain that you got details of their hometown wrong, but really, that was such a false note from how things would proceed in a real school that it took me out of the show. I clearly am able to suspend disbelief and will grant a miracle exception from the laws of nature from time to time, but having kids in school, there is no way the roll out of a new principal would go like that in a public school. Certainly not in a place where parents shell out college tuition for elementary ed.
Obligatory signature - Science Demands More Parker!
in regards to sophie's eating habits: the actor is pregnant, not the character. the lines in the tap out job were funny because it was sophisticated sophie stunned by regional food, like chicken fried steak. in this ep, she just broke up with her boyfriend, and sterotypically girls eat a lot when they're depressed. if i didn't know the actor was pregnant, i would never draw those conclusions from the character's actions.
those Air Jordans Elliot was wearing in the "let's figure out our con" scene:
Did wardrobe forget to change them? I know they showed up later in his gym teacher costume, but at that point he had no idea he was going to be a gym teacher... and expensive sneakers don't usually seem to be his footwear of choice... Nike shoutout?
Was it just me that noticed at the end that Nate didn't look surprised when Sophie said "Start telling the truth all day? That would be the end of Sophie Devereaux." Could he possibly know that Sophie isn't really her name? I could be wrong though....
Amy Berg WINS! I was so glad we got back to the lighter side this week with all the little asides and dysfunctional family-type bickering. The cast shines in those moments. And, too, the writing was superb. I laughed aloud at the cirrus clouds line in the science musical.
Taggert and McSweeten! LOVE that you brought them back and nicely played as an act break.
Question: what happened to the $20 million?! He was hiding the incriminating tape in the wall...but where'd the physical money go? Did I miss it?
what happened to the $20 million?! He was hiding the incriminating tape in the wall...but where'd the physical money go?
The physical money was never there--it was in offshore accounts waiting for his escape. Hardison got his hands on it, in his inimitable way, and gave it to the clinic.
in defense of nate's role: it's easier to duck questions if you're an eccentric foreigner. (and at least he was nice--my elem. principal was a Scottish dictator.)
It's also proof that TH can be attractive in any getup...
Enjoyed the episode. Wonderful sub-plot with Sophie and the boy. Loved the Feds turning back up and all the funny lines (especially Eliot suggesting Hardison was still a virgin and everything Parker/Hardison).
My question this week is about character motivation. Last season, the entire group seemed driven by something, both as individuals and as a team. Heck, so did Sterling. But now, even though they're back together, it feels like something's missing. Like they aren't quite as dedicated to what they're doing or something. They don't feel like a team yet. Is it just me or is that what you've intended?
Here's a question I accidently put on the wrong thread. I understand that Star Trek: TOS, for example, had an outside consulting firm that checked all their names very carefully against some (paper?) database to avoid conflicts and potential legal action. Yet in this show you named a Boston-based financial firm "Fidelity" and an exclusive private school "Dalton". Do the lawyers no longer care about such things, or do you just not listen to them?
WV: "quensiv" -- a close relative of the memory-retrieval system in Harry Potter...
Loved the episode and my question is more for the season as a whole. Will we see Eliot, Parker and Hardison have to run a con like they did in Bank Shot Job again?
I notice in next week's preview that Sophie is taking the lead any chances the other three will get a turn?
All the characters seemed surprised that Widmark's mom took a job at the clinic - I was surprised, too. Is she simply a medical professional who found out about the clinic as a by-product of this con OR did she have some connection to the clinic prior to the team's involvement?
frabjous picked my nit (other than, having gone to private schools in the Boston area myself, the idea of one being called the "best" is puzzling - there are a hell of a lot of topnotch institutions that might lay a claim to "best" based on a variety of factors - and AFAIK, none of them require wearing a uniform...)
Ahem. Nits. Mere nits. What I really wanted to say was how much I am enjoying seeing the individual character relationships develop among the entire ensemble. That is a fine cast you guys have assembled, sir - and they're doing outstanding work.
Another excellent episode. The development of the characters continues to unveil other questions about them as the show progresses.
My question is: there are quite a few named con games in existence. Do the writers look at these cons and try to somehow implement them into the team's work or does the show have "consultants" who offer up ideas as to the type of con for them to run?
The "Re-veah Claw" refers to the alias that Sophie was using last week. The characteristics of this creature are BIG hair, obnoxious personality, imprudently applied makeup, annoying gum snapping, disregard for personal space, a nasally overblown Boston accent, aloof and yet at the same time in-your-face, etc. This delightful creature comes from the town of Revere, Massachusetts -- just outside Boston (google map it).
You may think this is a stereotype, but these women really do exist. Just go to Kelly's on the beach at any hour of the day or night and you'll meet at least two.
"Re-veah" is an attempt to phonetically spell the Boston accent as spoken by Revere folk. It's nigh on impossible. Just like there are different accents throughout the midwest and south, different neighborhoods in Boston have their own accents as well.
I'm a Winthrop girl, myself, and take regular trips to Kelly's (which sadly is not as awesome as it used to be, or else I'm drinking less and can actually taste everything now), therefore an expert.
A follow-up to last week's comment. My wife, the neuroscientist, was curious how someone becomes a consultant for television shows or movies. Do you seek out people knowledgeable in their field or is there some sort of agency that matches up police officers with cop shows, lawyers with legal dramas, and Winston Zeddemore with the folks on Supernatural? How does a show find the right people?
I loved the scene with Gina and her boyfriend at the restaurant.
I mean, just sit Gina at a table and let her talk, and I'm there. She's usually got good emotional reactions.
The only disapointment I have was that this pretty much implies that relationships with outside people are doomed. The team is a capsule. I suppose life immitates art a bit, with the actors on a hectic schedule, they live a little like they are in a capsule together.
I also like the scene because it's in a restaurant. I'm not sure why, but I think I would like Nate to take everyone out for breakfast. Not lunch, or dinner, just breakfast. We'll see who's a fan of bacon, who thinks you're eating too much, who's got terrible table manners, and hear what they might talk about other than a con, like football or blackwater. We don't have to advance the plot. Like the beginning of resevoir dogs.
Although all of my sentiments have already been stated by numerous others here, I just want to formally add my accolades. I LOVED the episode, our terrific team of con artists, and the brilliant writers, director and producers. As always, the dialogue between players left me laughing out loud -- and my heart-strings were tugged by the sweet connection Sophie made with poor little Widmark. (It was cool to see Parker exhibiting classic "Parker-ness," and Hardison was his usual funny self. Eliot as an elementary school coach was a nice touch -- as was his "noisy" brawl with the hitman in the middle of Sophie's musical...) Thank you for putting out the BEST show on TV -- and for providing us with this forum for discussion with you.
Loving it in Australia. Got all my friends obsessed. We're all big Eliot fans, with a bit of Hardison, just because he's so funny.
You've said there won't be any of Chris Kane singing on the show. That's fine, I can handle that. Seemed a little cheesy when it happened on Angel so it's probably for the best.
But will there be any music industry related cons? Having studied music business I can think of about 10 just off the top of my head, and quite a few that have happened to friends.
That said, I'm loving the show. Best thing on TV atm.
P.S. Whens Eliot going to meet his match, woman wise? My friends and I are dying for that... :-P
Was it just me, or did Sophie’s American accent from earlier in the episode revert to her usual British one when she was being honest with Widmark? She seemed to go back to her American accent when announcing the winners, so I thought the bit was a nice, subtle touch!
two points .. a) fighting style: the last few episodes made it seem to me as if elliot had changed his fighting-style (as in less quick, less efficient, more brawling), but here it was back in old form. Love that version much more
b) if _anyone_ but hardison gets parker I'm going to be ultra-cross.
In the commentaries, it was expressed that you wished to bring back some of the characters from the first season, like Jack Hurley in "The Twelve Step Job" or the accountant played by Sara Rue in "The Mile High Job". This week you brought back the FBI agents brilliantly.
Are there currently any other guest characters we can expect to make a return in Season 2?
Also, my friend wants to know if you can give Christian Kane her number.
You mentioned in earlier Q&A's that this season would see character arcs for Nate and Sophie. It looks like we saw our first peak that Sophie's journey will be to learn about Sophie.
Will Nate's journey include a reappearance of his wife? Kari Matchett and Timothy Hutton are great fun to watch (loved them together in the Nero Wolfe episodes and I was thrilled to see her again in Leverage).
Not directly relating to this episode, but I have a question for ya - where have Eliot's glasses gone this season? I can't be the only one who thinks Christian looks really good in glasses, so for the sake of women everywhere, pleeease bring back the glasses!
Ha! Good question. I didn't catch that Eliot was reading without his glasses. Why didn't he have them on? I'd assume he got contacts but I can't imagine anyone doing what he does wearing contacts.
Hmmm, maybe he was idly flipping through the magazine and fantasizing about using more power tools in Nate's apartment.
1) I'm curious about the fact that you seem to drop Sophie's boyfriend after four episodes after setting him up in the season opener. It seems like a narrative blind alley... UNLESS, you plan on bringing him back later in the season. Could I be right about this.
2) If you do put Hardison in a dress, you will having him singing a Lisa Lobe song?
This was a great episode but I haven't had a chance to watch it since the original airing. I was hoping I could ask you a general question. I've heard that casts on other shows wrote back stories for their characters before any footage of their show was shot. Did your cast do the same? And if so are they use much as you develop the characters? Also I just wanted to say that I was thrilled to see Kari Matchett on the show and I'm happy to hear she is coming back. She and Mr. Hutton have a remarkable chemistry that I fell in love with watching NERO WOLFE. Good to see Saul Rubinek also!!
"You've said there won't be any of Chris Kane singing on the show. That's fine, I can handle that. Seemed a little cheesy when it happened on Angel so it's probably for the best."
On behalf of all women everywhere, I must respectfully counter your assertion that Christian's singing on Angel was AT ALL "cheesy." On the contrary, I wish there had been mention in the Two Horse Job that it was Christian who sang "More Than I Deserve" in that tenderly romantic moment.... I'm betting that MOST people didn't realize it was "the real Eliot." himself.
This may be a question for Amy. John, if a crowd of concerned parents storm the school because they're tremendously worried about a headmaster change, and an eccentric new headmaster appeared to tout his teaching method *as outlined in his book*, and he references that book several times during his introduction... what's the next thing those parents do?
Why, they buy the book and read it.
That seemed like an awfully big risk for experienced grifters, or a non-trivial plot hole. How'd you guys address it in the writer's room? I can imagine Hardisson hacking into Amazon, but it still feels a bit wobbly to me.
Is it just me or have three out of the four episodes aired so far have to do with kids as victims in some way? Is that going to continue to be a theme throughout the season as a reminder of what Nate lost?
Just watched the most recent episode and loved it, as par for the course. (Then rewatched both of The David Jobs with a friend of ours who's getting caught up, and the first episode of the season again, which we have on our DVR for repeated viewing.)
Handful of questions: 1) Hardison was obviously looking for Parker while the team was split up. We ever going to find out more about where she was, other than the whole Hope Diamond thing? Hardison is VERY good at what he does - I'm curious how hard Parker tried to stay hidden from him.
2) Something I'd never wondered until this episode... IS Sophie's name REALLY Sophie? Is her background going to continue to be a blank slate? (Remember, of ALL the team, the only one we don't know anything about... is Sophie. We know about Hardison and his Nanna, we know about Parker and her Dad, we know about Nate and his work and his son and his wife, we know about Eliot and the girl he left behind... but Sophie's our great big mystery.) Even more impressive is that I don't think I thought about it until it was pointed out in the episode that we haven't thought about it. Bra-VO.
3) Hardison DESERVES to be stuck in a dress for his comment this week. Just sayin'. We all want the laughs.
4) I know there's a midseason break - when'll you be back again, and when'll you know (generally) if you're confirmed for a season 3, which I'm hoping is a deadlock based on the season premiere this season?
5) Make sure they put this season out on BluRay ... been enjoying the HD too much to go back now.
@Anna And does it bother you that more fans (or so it seems) are shipping Eliot/Parker?
Here, I must respectfully inquire if you are out of your mind. More fans are shipping Eliot/Parker? Uh, no, not really. Besides the fact that Parker and Hardison have crazy rampant UST, Eliot does not interact that much with Parker, outside of the confines of a job. I mean, he's got more chemistry with Hardison, for goodness' sake! Not that there's anything wrong with that...
Not really connected to this episode specifically, but some Leverage questions all the same:
Will any of the episodes actually take place in Portland? (Fun as it is to see which parts of the city speak "Nebraska," "Boston," etc, to your scouts, some action in Stumptown would be appreciated)
Why so many children in Season 2? It seems like all but the Tap-Out Job have had some kid to feel bad for. Is there a requisite number that must be featured in each season (filled entirely by the Stork Job in Season 1, presumably)?
Hopefully these aren't too critical-sounding, just bracing for the usual snarkiness of reply.

i like the dark stuff since that's where timothy hutton and christian kane shine, but the fun, lighter stories give the characters of parker and hardison great laugh-out-loud moments (gina bellman, like sophie, adapts to any situation and delivers). also, i enjoy when the characters are caught out and have to think fast to keep their covers.
all in all, i am digging the show. i wish i were writing for it :-)
i guess if i have a question, it is this: is jonathan frakes the most underestimated and undervalued director in serial television?
Just out of curiosity, whats the budget for this season and which episodes will be the most expensive and cheapest to make?
Thanks and keep up the good work.
When do eps get posted on Netflix/TNT.tv?
It's Wednesday (Leverage Day) and I've got the day off, which leads me to wonder why if an episode is already ready to air and is most definitely sitting in a directory on the server a link can't be posted to it now rather than later? What's the difference, other than helping/hurting me with this boredom affliction?
Taggert and McSweeten! OMG I AM SO HAPPY.
(Also, the Blackadder gag just killed me.)
Well the "re-veah claw" was forgiven. Except now I'll have nightmares about Nate's Melcher guy..I think that was my college lit prof at Salem State.
Oh and any significance to Eliot's #7 on his shirt?
I loved this.
Loved the episode. I was thrilled to see the two FBI agents again.
Was Skylar based off of anyone in particular? I think everyone's had one of those in their life.
Ok, I'll go with a question:
Nate seemed a bit uncaring about Widmark...Jobs over, time to go, don't worry about the kid...which is a bit...different for him from season 1.
Is it just how the story played, or is this more of the Dark Nate story?
And again, the team really needs a beagle...just sayin'
The evolving dynamics between the team are fantastic; kudos! You've found some more great actors; are the kids all local talent?
(Also, the Blackadder gag just killed me.)
THERE WAS A BLACKADDER GAG AND I MISSED IT? AUUUUUGGGGGHHHHH!
What was it? *whimper*
---KRAD the disappointed in himself
(Also, the Blackadder gag just killed me.)
THERE WAS A BLACKADDER GAG AND I MISSED IT? AUUUUUGGGGGHHHHH!
What was it? *whimper*
I missed it too.
Today's look here comes the Fun train explanation. Couldn't Parker have gon to the little FBI agent's room?
BTW best climax of a running gag i've seen in a long time.
This was my favorite episode to date. I loved Sophie's storyline and the heart to heart she had with the boy.
The little spelling bee girl was a riot - was she really a good speller? And Eliot as the PE teacher - the perfect job.
But best of all was the music! Who knew mold could be so lyrical. Look out Andrew Lloyd Weber -- Scienceacle is coming to Broadway!
Dearest Kung Fu Monkey,
I had a dream where I was a mark on Leverage.
THE END
I remain your dutiful servant,
unadiagrand
What's Sophie's real name?
Love the show!
What became of the thug that Eliot stuffed into the closet? How does he explain that he was whooped by a Gym Teacher?
Is the name Taggert an oh-mage to the police officer by the same name in beverly Hills Cop? They do look very similar.
Amy, as usual a brilliant episode. Having Tim play the German Professor was great - his acting knows no bounds. Keep up the great work!
Great episode. I really liked the final scenes.
My question: how did you manage to get a character named Mark Sanford? And: was that written before this summer?
I love this show!
I just have one question. Or rather an request. Please can you put Hardison in a dress? If I ask nicely?
those Air Jordans Elliot was wearing in the "let's figure out our con" scene:
Did wardrobe forget to change them? I know they showed up later in his gym teacher costume, but at that point he had no idea he was going to be a gym teacher... and expensive sneakers don't usually seem to be his footwear of choice... Nike shoutout?
Loved the episode!!!
Was it just me that noticed at the end that Nate didn't look surprised when Sophie said "Start telling the truth all day? That would be the end of Sophie Devereaux." Could he possibly know that Sophie isn't really her name? I could be wrong though....
Really enjoyed the episode, even though the Blackadder reference seems to have passed me by too.
My question: is Federal Agent McSweeten going to be the one who impregnates Parker with the zombie alien babies?
Amy Berg WINS! I was so glad we got back to the lighter side this week with all the little asides and dysfunctional family-type bickering. The cast shines in those moments. And, too, the writing was superb. I laughed aloud at the cirrus clouds line in the science musical.
Taggert and McSweeten! LOVE that you brought them back and nicely played as an act break.
Question: what happened to the $20 million?! He was hiding the incriminating tape in the wall...but where'd the physical money go? Did I miss it?
Fun ep! Great moments for everyone all round.
what happened to the $20 million?! He was hiding the incriminating tape in the wall...but where'd the physical money go?
The physical money was never there--it was in offshore accounts waiting for his escape. Hardison got his hands on it, in his inimitable way, and gave it to the clinic.
in defense of nate's role:
it's easier to duck questions if you're an eccentric foreigner.
"Amy" is not me, just fyi. But thanks for all the compliments, guys. I kinda love the episode, too.
So if there's an Evil Speech of Evil, what is the nickname for something like the introduction of the Melchen Method?
(Also, how did anyone keep a straight face during that scene?)
"Schemist?" Tell me that's not really the word you use for one perpetrating a Ponzi scheme.
"The Godparents Job" seemed to be mostly oriented at characters (Sophie, and for some reason, Widmark) with no plot to speak of.
Are you going to come back to plot-driven episodes like in season 1, or are you sticking to character gags with minimum plot to hold them together?
Oh, Gods -- the FBI guy's name is Todd McSweeny? Was it always thus?
Nice callback to S1, but I was disappointed with the lack of singing, dancing Timothy Hutton...
frabjous picked my nit (other than, having gone to private schools in the Boston area myself, the idea of one being called the "best" is puzzling - there are a hell of a lot of topnotch institutions that might lay a claim to "best" based on a variety of factors - and AFAIK, none of them require wearing a uniform...)
Ahem. Nits. Mere nits. What I really wanted to say was how much I am enjoying seeing the individual character relationships develop among the entire ensemble. That is a fine cast you guys have assembled, sir - and they're doing outstanding work.
It has just randomly occurred to me that Nate has been shot at least twice over the years.
Will we ever get to see any of those Gnarly scars?
Loved the episode :)
Peace,
Carolyn
Thank you for the explanation, Carolyn!
Is anyone going to explain the Blackadder reference? It's blown by me more than once!
We know the show is shooting in Portland now. Has the writing team been moved to Portland too, or do they spend most of their time in LA?
You mentioned in earlier Q&A's that this season would see character arcs for Nate and Sophie. It looks like we saw our first peak that Sophie's journey will be to learn about Sophie.
Will Nate's journey include a reappearance of his wife? Kari Matchett and Timothy Hutton are great fun to watch (loved them together in the Nero Wolfe episodes and I was thrilled to see her again in Leverage).
Great episode. Really enjoyed it. All y'all kept raising the bar every week.
But I have three questions:
1) if Nate has 700 sports channels, why is Eliot reading a magazine (and a home decorating one at that)?
2) aside from Maggie, will we ever get to meet any of the teams' relatives?
3) and, how did you come up with the name "Widmark" for the main kid in this episode?
Thanks!
Are we going to learn more about good ol' Jimmy Ford?
Will we see Parker's bunny?
How about Jane, err, I mean Sophie's truth snake?
Just watching the last scene.
Lots of fun, with all of the characters involved.
The money manager's involvement was a real surprise.
Another plus: Multiple venues (school, apartment) where very different stuff was happening.
Captcha Vocabulary:
'acelicit': Like illicit, but really cool!
In the Leverage world does ice float or sink? Because the ice on the nurses glass that Parker got her was definatley on the bottom of the glass.
LOVED the episode and the kids, despite the added costs the latter must have imposed.
What's the most expensive Leverage episode to date?
Loved the episode but two things.

Opinion?
Is it just me or have three out of the four episodes aired so far have to do with kids as victims in some way? Is that going to continue to be a theme throughout the season as a reminder of what Nate lost?
Just watched the most recent episode and loved it, as par for the course. (Then rewatched both of The David Jobs with a friend of ours who's getting caught up, and the first episode of the season again, which we have on our DVR for repeated viewing.)
Handful of questions:
1) Hardison was obviously looking for Parker while the team was split up.
6) Thanks.

The guy is definitely right, and there's no question.
