Posts are slow because I am enjoying a thrilling new flu bug, complete with chills, fever, a creepily meningitis-like neck-ache, etc.
Weirdly, when I spike a fever, my brain goes into hyperdrive, and I wind up lying there in a sort of awake-REM state with thoughts storming, unsortable and repetitive and obsessive, fixated on whatever I was reading/watching when it hit. This time around it was the excellent intro-to-economics book New Ideas from Dead Economists. I recommend it highly, despite the fact that I couldn't get Ricardo's Law of Comparative Advantage out of my head for six semi-conscious hours.
Also, we'll be extending the Fisher House fundraising through August. I hope to actually produce something useful for you in the immediate future.

ReplyDeleteAh. Sixth day on the flu myself, still have slight symptoms, but have been feeling well enough since yesterday. An MD friend says it was the 'flu of the week' last week. Lucky us.

ReplyDeleteI was taking a medicine (pain killer, ironically) which gave me occasional migraines. I had one after watching 'Saving Private Ryan' the night before. When I could approach something resembling sleep through the pain, I'd have visions of that D-Day scene.

I get the same way with a fever, sort of. I get great, perfect ideas (or they seem that way at the time) but I'm too beat down and useless to write them and by the time I'm well enough, they're gone. And all the while I'm feverish, when all I want is to sleep until it's done, these ideas just won't stop hammering my brain.

I've recently read, G.Buchholz's "New Ideas from Dead CEOs: Lasting Lessons from the Corner Office". Nice book, thanks for your suggestion his another book. I'll check it. Hope you'll be better soon...
