Brown-Out

Ugh. One post in close to two weeks? Sorry folks, just got hit with a perfect storm -- a pitch of another complex adaptation to a studio, developing another outline, going back in today to work on Eureka (with David Greenwalt, pretty spiffy), rough work on a maybe-book about 4GM, and multiple meetings to close the deal on maybe, just maybe, moving a camera about a bit.

When I was a complete newbie, I once asked a DP, "In simple terms, what is a Director of Photography?"

"Our job is to stand next to the director, lean over and whisper ... 'You don't want to do that.' "

Heh. Also, my wife was out of town for a week, and I've now been married long enough that when that occurs I do not exactly implode, but my fuel mix is spiked.

So, when clear of this -- the morality play essay, more on working on Eureka, and some book reviews. In the meantime, it turns out The Crazification Factor made it to the final rounds of the Koufax Awards. If it amuses you, please help push it over the top. Oh, and vote for Fafblog for Most Humorous Blog. It's the only thing on the Web that consistently makes e laugh at things that should make me cry.

When I am separated from my wife two long, I become a babbling idiot. One week is about all I can take without her calming effects.

You mean like a golf caddie? I don't know squat about golf, but it always looks like that's what they're saying. Either that, or "Dude, you have a wedgie and people are talking."

Or to paraphrase:

"Our job is to stand next to the husband, lean over and whisper ... 'You don't want to do that.' "

The trouble I get into when Jess is away... man.

I manage to get into plenty of trouble when she is around, so it is even worse when she is gone.

If I didn't like you so much, I'd hate you. I should have such problems.

This provides me a great opportunity to ask why you haven't directed before, or why more of the lovely and talented screenwriters who run the blogs that entertain me work do not step behind the camera?

(Yes, that was a run-on sentence. And yeah, I know many writers step up to producer level on TV.)

I realize this is probably like asking why more people don't set themselves on fire for fun, but still...

Oh, and what advice do you have for those of us who want to write and direct?
