I just had a thought, not specifically about this episode, but about the future of the show: If the crew is moving to Portland for next season, then does that mean we won't see any more of Bonnano or Lady Cop (whose name I never remember)? That will be so sad. I love them.
Yes, Hardison was definitely in Warehouse 13! And I loved the Dr. Who-esque music for the time machine prop. Hardison had the bow tie, now he just needs a fez. :)
Oh, and by the way the ending was AMAZING!!! Oh, the war has definitely started now. I am looking forward to the guest stars for next week. I do hope there will be at least one that was NOT shown in the previews, as I would love to be surprised.
I SHOULD have figured out the end, but I didn't. Great reveal, and looking forward to the season finale, though sorry it's the finale.
Once again, the music was stellar, especially the reference to a certain Time Lord. Except... shouldn't he have punched in 1963 instead of 1962? Or was that intentional, and if so, why?
Nice to see Michael Pare, although he didn't really get that much to do. The turf war stuff was fun, but perhaps he bought the direction to go to the west entrance a bit too easily. Oh, well.
I particularly liked this episode's mix of funny and serious (except that it got REAL serious at the end); Eliot and Parker throwing Hardison down the shaft, and the eventual teaming of Pardison again to set up the radio con; and Eliot's creative use of tape in the fight.
Oh my God. All I can say is, why must you make me wait until next week? Questions: 1. Time machine: Ledger, orange box, or Parker fantasy? 2. Why didn't Homeland Security buy Sophie's story? 3. Has Eliot been on a police force before? He seemed to have the agent pretty convinced that he was a badge. 4. If the team or the goons didn't activate the motion sensors, who did? I was just confused there. 5. Will next week's episode pick up where tonight's left off, or will there be a time gap between them? You folks do wonderful work and you make a wonderful show. I can't wait for next week!
...and it starts with a flashback. Let the fun train begin. Hardison with the squishy bits ;-) I really thought Eliot would knock him out to get him down the shaft. Duct tape is like the Force, it has a light side and a dark side and it holds the universe (and bad guys) together. So how did Gina like feeling pregnant again? I loved the allusions to Die Hard. Caught it even before the Yippi Ki Yi M****** This episode seemed like a normal con up until the last five minutes. We knew that a building would go but ...wow. The imagery of the explosion was very evocative of the pilot. In the first one, all were hurt and this time Nate and his dad only. I've loved watching Tom Skerritt since Alien and Steel Magnolias and Jimmy is now completely etched into my image of him as well. Kudos to the writing and the acting for creating such a memorable character in such a short time. I know you all love working with Saul so you must have had a blast with these two episodes. My question is not limited to this episode. Are the actors individually miked? We can hear sounds like hmmm, and grunts and growls (Eliot of course), and gasps that just seem too soft for a boom mike? Or have boom mikes gotten that sensitive or do the actors have to loop in those sounds as well? Thank you for this episode; I'm glad next week is MLK holiday so I can watch it a second time without feeling guilty about being sleepy the next day at work. When do you begin filming season five and do you know yet the start air date of season five. We need to see you steal Portland and a time machine (for Parker) and a classic car show (for Eliot) and.......
Hey I've watched this episode, recorded it on Tivo and watched the teaser at the end in slow motion/stopped.
There's a part where it shows three people, Chaos on the left, Artie Leech on the Right, and some guy I don't recognize in a suit in the middle.
Does anybody know who he is? Is he Tara's new boyfriend thief from the Boy's Night Out job, that doesn't sound right since they've already got Artie as a secondary thief.
Is he suppose to be Mr. Quinn three years later? Because that would make sense (extra hacker, extra muscle, extra thief and Nate and Sophie are both good grifters) but if so he doesn't really look the same... did anybody recognize the guy in the middle?
(Episode was great otherwise as you could probably guess that this is all I have to complain about)
Yippy ky-yay! Motherfucker! Absolutely loved it! This episode blew me away! I loved all of the references and Eliot's win left my sister and I squealing. The ending floored me and now I really want Dubenich to die a horrible death.
Ally -- Eliot is "a badge" on some moral level, since he risks his life to protect others, etc., and he traded on his membership in the brotherhood of "badges" to save the team. He felt quite bad about that -- hence his very understated "do you really want me to do this" to Nate.
The previews for both this week and next week have a truly annoying number of spoilers. I take it the network, rather than the creative team, is responsible for them?
(In particular, _don't_ watch the preview for #418 before watching #417, as it reveals one of the secrets that our host has asked us not to spoil here.)
Niiiice tips of the fedora to Doctor Who and Die Hard and Warehouse 13.
And fantastic choice of final bad guy. I knew the actor was coming bad for an ep, but this . . . And it looks like it's old home week for the next one.
I have such love for your writers. Hardison and the bowtie, Parker and the time machine, Eliot as John McClane, Sophie and the water bottle. This episode was packed with goodies that counterpoints how well this season has turned out. No questions from me but I can't wait for next week. Thanks and enjoy your questing.
Loved this ep!!!!!! I've watched it twice and can't wait for next week!!!
I knew this had something to do with the pilot when I saw "Yipee Ka-yay Mother- FOUND IT!" and in the Pilot Parker gets cut off when saying "Why the F-"
Also, the explosion... BOOM!
As well as Eliot talking to the cops, in the pilot he calls the cops while in the ER! ----------------------------------- This episode was literally a movie! I can't wait for all the guest stars next week!
My main question: What happened to the people expecting the million dollars?
@Andrew B. I want to believe its that guy (Mr. Quinn) but even after taking the time to go and rewatch the First David Job on DVD which at least cleared up my mistaken beliefs that he was a red head for some reason, and looking at the guy in freeze frame... honestly I can't say for certain that they're the same person off the top of my head so thanks for backing up my theory if nothing else.
Does anybody else recognize that guy, either as Mr. Quinn or as someone else from the series...
Wow, this episode made me laugh out loud all the Die Hard references, it made me gasp and finally broke my heart...I know Nate is going to go Postal but at least he will have the team at his back.. The main thing about the writing on this show is that you make us feel like we are right there experiencing it with everyone. Just Thank You.
@SueN Thanks for letting me know. Interesting, that means we've got one of the three temporary teamates from season one, one from season two, and one from season three...
That said this makes Artie the odd man out, as the other two (Quinn and Chaos) are enemies of the team while Artie left the team on good terms.
Just makes me want to see next week's episode all the more sadly while moving at light speed may make time travel slower, just siting here trying not to move seems to be failing to make time go by faster....
THis is the most AWESOME show on television. I KNEW it was going to be *you-know-who* after the last phone conversation with Lattimer. At least I believed it with all my heart. And I was right. Yay Me!
The Die Hard bits were great. It was nice to see Michael Pare.
The previews for next week had me on the edge of my seat.
I hate to keep wishing my life away, but damn, is it next Sunday yet?
All I can do is echo the "Wow!" sentiments. Loved the mix of serious and humor. Really don't want to wait until next week to see part 2. Tell the network, the wait "bites."
1. DOCTOR WHO. My best friend and I literally squealed at Hardison's "Bowties are cool." You know what else was cool? That reference. Major win. (And Hardison totally would.)
2. The ending! That definitely caught me off guard. Well played, sir.... well played.
3. CHA0S! And Archie.... this is going to be AWESOME.
4. SO INTENSE. My heart is still beating insanely fast... wow.
5. It's a minor thing, but loved that Hardison was holding back Sophie and Parker at the end. It is always so nice to see the team dynamic so strongly, and the reaction to the explosion was spot on. Thank you for that.
Actually, just.... thank you for an outstanding episode. Can't wait for the finale!
You spend all that time tryna make me ask the question "who is nate going to save??" but anybody who doesn't turn their TV off immediately after the broadcast would know who it was. Ya'll need to operate under the assumption we know that shit straight away cuz I spent the whole first 15 minutes like "His dad. it's his dad. his dad's in there. that's about to be his dad. he's going in there to talk to his dad." and then you practically go "IT'S HIS DAAD!!" and I'm like "yeah. I know." There's no payoff for that shit!
Also, Sophie's too skinny. Give that girl a steak. NGL she's looking real good but somebody needs to take her ass to the crafty truck and feed her a swanson's beef pie or sumthn. She's my girl, gotta get her right.
Eliot's hair: boy's looking like Charlie's angel. It's all feathered like he's going to prom. He's my boy and I hold it down for him but somebody's gotta give him some wave, throw a lil kink in there so he don't looks like he spent his whole morning with a flat iron and some morrocan oils.
Hardison: you picked the right name for him. His body is HARD, SON. seriously, how you going to have him be called a "nerd" and act like he needs to prove his manhood when he looks like he could kick 90% of everybody's ass he encounters. I dunno any nerds who spend all their time next to the computer, drinking orange soda, playing wizard games look like that.
Parker's looking good. Need to make her clothes tighter. I'm just playin, they already tight as hell. Which is why I'm here to say thank you.
Timothy Hutton: Makin me cry in Ordinary People like that. Where the hell you been for the past 50 years? Love Nate Ford. You need to cut up some of that ordinary people scenes, make them like some flash backs and have nate ford all young, makin me cry about his survior guilt.
This show is tight.
Hey Executive Producer: is that you in the second episode of the show auditioning Sophie for the soap commercial? You're my boy but you probly need to stay behind that camera. Thanks for making this show. It's tight. Why every episode they pull a damn Bavarian Fire Drill? Mix that shit up son.
Chaos is the only hacker the team's confronted with that level of skill, I can see why they'd call him if they really need a second hacker. And Artie Leech is on good terms with the team, he's a perfect backup thief. But Quinn? Elliot's on good terms with both the Israeli woman from season 2 and his hitter buddy from Boy's Night Out, pulling in a bad hitter instead of either of those seems like an unnecessary risk.
I HATE YOU ALL! I fell part of myself just dead watching this episode. Plus this is closer to no more Leverage every week, I'm so freaking sad!!!
Since Mr. Rogers said no spoiler in here, so fine. Brilliant episode but still hating whoever responsible for that few minutes before ending. He could've just run!!!!!
Then I can't remember Rockford at all, but seeing that guy's face only reminded me of some state in another country *wink*
Okay, this may seem trivial but it's making me nuts. The name of Richard Chamberlain's character is Not "Artie"; it's "Archie Leach". The original owner of the name came to be called "Cary Grant", star of "To Catch A Thief," and one or two other movies.
I'm noticing that a lot of folks on "the internet" are excited about the Doctor Who reference, but you've been making them for quite awhile now, so thanks for another! The Tom Baker one was during season 1!
I hate when Nate keeps stuff to himself like he does here - he should know by now that the team isn't going to let him go do something that seems fishy all on his own. Sophie had to have called the team together to find Nate and discuss what they were going to do.
The Die Hard references were fantastic! The Doctor Who references were fantastic! Some good intense Eliot fights, one w/ duct tape - awesome. And the comic genius of Aldis Hodge choosing to pee his own pants on a take just to get a laugh and some sympathy.
I have 2 questions about this ep: Parker says that maybe Jimmy used the time machine to go to 1962. Why that year? Is that the year Nate was born?
When the building blew up how close was Tim (or his stunt double) to the building? I think you've mentioned a couple of times on the DVD commentaries that your people are often positioned a little closer than they ought to be, like in the pilot when the warehouse blew behind Eliot, Hardison, and Parker; and then in the Stork Job when the storage doors get blown out with the movie pyrotechnics and throw the bad guys to the ground, allowing our team to escape.
So, how close was Tim (or his double) to this explosion? A completely safe distance? Much further than it looked? Or about as close as you usually let them stand because it's worked out okay the last few times you've done it that way?
Anyway, thanks for a really enjoyable episode! I had no idea what a radio job was and no one explained it, but I think by the end I'd kind of worked it out, so that was nice.
Oh, and, last question - when does Leverage start filming again - that is to say, how much of a break do you get before you get to start berating your writers and drinking on set?
Nineteen sixty-two? And Parker saying that the question isn't 'where', but 'when'? Please tell me that was an intentional Community/Inspector Spacetime reference.
Why didn't Eliot tie the goons up tighter? Seriously. More duct tape would have kept the pro guy from getting loose. I mean, it worked out for them, but that was a little sloppy. Some tape around the pipe so that they can't move or jiggle about would have been more secure.
"Badge"? Was Eliot just grifting, or does he really have some kind of badge?
Can we have Mr. FBI guy back? He's corny in a good way. The "rescue" segment with that heroic music made me laugh. I like McSweeten and Taggert, but I think we need some more capable FBI contacts. And he likes Eliot/"Cowboy."
Parker "helping" Hardison? Thank you. Also, her imagined sequence reminded me of Carmen Sandiego ("Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego?") instead of Dr. Who, which I haven't seen yet, but it was still very awesome.
Parker and Eliot in cahoots to throw Hardison down the top floor...Still laughing. That look they share while Hardison is turned around. Priceless.
That last scene with Nate was heartbreaking. I love how Hardison held the girls back and let Eliot take care of Nate. You can just see that he wanted to be rushing at him, too, but held back because they had to get out of there and they wouldn't have made it in time if they'd all crowded around Nate. He's grown a lot since Season 1. (/character analysis)
Sympathy pregnant belly. LOL! Sophie's expression was hilarious. I was wondering how she would get out of actually having to "give birth." The paramedic's yelp was really funny.
Oh no! This season's almost over! What am I going to do until the show starts up again?
I have tons of questions about this episode but in order to stay away from spoilers, I'll ask one of my more general questions to the showrunners:
I'm as big of a Sophie fan as the next person, but there seem to be some strong hints that she's a manipulative psycho. I was watching the episode from the first season where they all go to Russia and Parker stabs the guy with the fork. Well, in that episode, Sophie says she "doesn't leave [her] personal life to chance". Implying that she carefully orchestrates every interaction she has with everyone, whether they're friends or marks. Every time she bats her eyelashes at Nate or banters with the crew, she's grifting (or so my theory goes). Is it possible she's more sinister than she seems? Or was the finale of season one as far as you're going with that possibility? Either way, she's great.
It's just an interesting idea I came across in watching some re-runs. I'm surprised the writers have gotten away with offering so little about this character after four years. I'm not complaining, of course, I just think it's really interesting. It obviously works, keeping her character and enigma. Otherwise fans would be revolting (as I imagine they would with any other series).
Wow. Just ... wow. And then the preview for next week on top of it broke my brain. Archie and Chaos and Quinn? Good luck topping that next year - it's already my favorite episode ever :P
OK, questions: 1) The Inventions Suppression/Secrecy Act thingy - ledger or black box? (I want it to be ledger, yet I have a bad feeling it's probably not ...) 2) Who is Parker's favourite Doctor? 3) So is it canon now that, since the Three Days of the Hunter Job, Eliot has just continued to screw with Parker's head about conspiracy theories? Loved all the sibling beats between them this episode, btw - my favourite relationship. 4) Just a behind-the-scenes type question, I know you guys write each season finale as if it could be the last (really like that, btw), but knowing you've already been renewed for another season, does that influence how you write the finale? Take other finales for example - the team splitting up, or Nate going to jail - did you already know how you were going to fix them, or was it a case of "Well, crap" when you got back to the writers room? Every Leverage season opener has made my list of favorites, so I wondered how much planning went into them.
Thank you for this show - it's the best thing on TV. I love how it can go from hilarious to gut-wrenching in a heartbeat, without feeling out of place. Can't wait for next week, but I don't want this season to end!
Three Card Monte Job was a little underwhelming for me, but I think that was because it was dealing with Nate and Jimmy in such a different context. They were kinda playing each other, so I never quite got a real strong sense of their real relationship. It all felt very slippery.
THIS episode did not have that problem. This one got right down to the meat and gristle of their relationship and was awesome.
That scene where Tim Hutton and Tom Skerrit are yelling at each other and over each other was worth the price of admission alone, but then you had to top that with Nate screaming into the phone and Jimmy's bit about doing "these father things" and Nate and Jimmy both lowering their phones at the same time . . . you bastards!
QUESTIONS:
1) How was the phone scene in the van filmed? Was the whole cast there? Was someone reading Jimmy's part to Tim?
2) Eliot letting Nate go into the archive room along - was that Eliot's read on that moment or does that signify that Eliot's overall trust level of Nate is increasing?
3) In your answer post to Inside Job, you wrote:
Nate would not find being a manipulative sonovabitch contradictory to loving someone enough to die for them.
It'll become clearer when you meet his father ...
Does that mean that you guys had this particular ending in mind for Jimmy when you introduced him?
If so, did you ever consider letting Jimmy live, so we could see him interacting with the team? My one real regret is that we never got to see Skerritt interacting with any of the rest of the awesome cast.
(Yes, I am that much of a fan freak, that I remembered you saying something about Nate's dad and self-sacrifice and spent a half hour digging it up!)
Leverage just went so very much darker than I ever expected it to go. This was much more gut-wrenching than anything I've seen on the show before now - what a tremendous Part One.
I'm guessing most of my questions will be answered next week, but there was one thing, although how to ask this without spoiling anything from the episode (although it seems like at this point, people should've seem it)... there seemed to be an assumption with the "nate's not here" phone call at the end that Nate would in fact be present. I get why the goal was for him to be there. But how was the Big Bad accounting for the rest of the team? You might be able to take out Nate Ford, but that's just going to set Eliot and Parker on your ass. (And Hardison and Sophie, but Eliot and Parker are scarier). Was there a plan for handling the rest of the team that we didn't see? Or is the Big Bad thinking of the team as just another group of thieves who don't have loyalty to each other?
I am a very sad child, so I didn't get most of the references, but I loved it anyway! Tossing Hardison off... Hahaha. Eliot 'the cop' was awesome. The Irish music they played in all the Jimmy/Nate scenes was a nice touch. My favourite bit of their's was when they were shouting at each and Jimmy was like I did it for you! Fantastic emotional powerhouse of an episode. Loved the build-up for next week! Can't wait!
I have just one question! Parker got the time-machine... What from when does she steal first? ;)
Die Hard is one of my all-time favorite movies, and I loved the way Elliot used the Die Hard vibe to get support -- the guy, whether consciously or not, so much wanted to be the smart "good cop" from Die Hard, not one of the stupid "bad cops". Even though he wasn't really talking to "another badge", his sensing that he was talking to a fellow "good guy" was real! It was nice he could feel justified at the end. It was also great when Elliot let the 3 thugs beat the crap out of him when they were visible on the skyway, to help convince the suspicious agents of the "inside cop" story, then kicked their asses as soon as they were out of view. Also, sweet editing to get the full effect of the "Yippee-ki-yay. motherfucker" line without needing censorship for TV.
One questionable thing -- I cannot imagine anyone (without a death wish) just watching a bomb timer count down to zero, so I don't understand why Jimmy did not run as fast as he could, as soon as he realised the situation, even if it seemed hopeless, to try and put distance and/or objects between himself and the bombs.
I agree - it really was funny BUT...seriously, SERIOUSLY??!- The paramedic had a patient in the back and was riding up front?! I hope that is only in TV land because it doesn't happen on our ambulances!
@kta - Thank you for telling people it is Archie Leach - you're right it isn't a big deal but actually it is!
@James Firecat & @ SueN - Thanks for asking and answering who the middle guy was. I thought for a minute I was going to have to turn in my Leverage membership for not recognizing Quinn!
I can not begin to tell you how much I LOVED this episode. Too many cool bits to call out, but rest assured I will be watching it again and again and again.
@Anon: I think it was several things....Jimmy realized his time was up. He could spend the rest of his life trying for the last big score or go out in a flash, perhaps removing himself from the board as a tool to use against his son.
********************
Hey, Tracy Morgan watches Leverage (or a pretty good forum version of him)
*********************
Die Hard references seemed a bit blatant there...I understand the ropadope of the funny throughout the episode leading to the gut punch at the end, but still.....
**********************
I never got a clear idea of what a "Radio con" is.
***********************
I enjoyed Elliot being insulted by the quality of thugs sent after him.
@msd: Yeah, we always have someone in the back, as well, but not always a medic (if it's a BLS call).
Also, the patient is always strapped to the stretcher, so... how did Sophie manage to turn that far around and get out of the stretcher so fast? I know, I know, I'm supposed to willfully suspend my disbelief, but there are some times when that's really really difficult. Like the scene at the beginning of "The Fairy Godparents Job" with the unconscious little girl who came around with a couple puffs of an inhaler that wasn't even prescribed to her and an Epi-pen to the leg (that is NOT protocol).... but I digress.
@Anon: I think it was several things....Jimmy realized his time was up. He could spend the rest of his life trying for the last big score or go out in a flash, perhaps removing himself from the board as a tool to use against his son.
Yeah, I think the show did a really excellent job of setting it up:
1)Jimmy was dizzy and disoriented from being slugged;
2)he wanted to give himself up for his son to do something right for a change - as Video Beagle said, take himself off of the board, so he could no longer be used as a piece against Nate;
3)he was feeling fatalistic anyway ("maybe I don't have that last score in me");
4)he was still an arrogant bastard and he didn't want to die a quiet old man's death in Ireland. He was big news in his day, and realizing that he was losing his power and choices, as we all do in old age, his pride would not allow him to go out in anything less than a blaze of glory. ("I'm Jimmy Ford dammit!")
All those things together, and the man sees 24 seconds on a timer in the middle of a huge warehouse, and he shrugs and says, well, I guess that's it.
I think that's one of the moments that the show really laid some extensive (and impressively seamless)groundwork to explain.
@Oona: Very well-thought comments! I can sort of see the possibility of fatalism in Jimmy, though it hadn't been part of his character previously. Maybe he realised how totally stupid he had been to think that: a)He would actually get away with the 2 million after they had the file, and b)They would honor the agreement to leave Nate alone. Anyone, especially a great con artist, would know that you can't trust bad guys unless you have some serious "leverage" to make it much too painful for them fail to keep their promises.
Did seeing what happened to Nate have any affect on Hardison and him wanting to become a team learder one day? seeing how people will always be after you.
I am stunned to look it up and find out there IS actually an "Invention Secrecy Act of 1951"! Got to wonder what exactly are in those patent applications.
I echo the stunned "wows" that this episode is getting and look forward to the season finale.
I have a twice-a-month game that's running D&D 2.0.
@Ally: If the team or the goons didn't activate the motion sensors, who did? No one did. When the cops roared in, the team assumed the goons tripped the sensors. Eliot discovered the sensors weren't tripped, so something else (like a tipoff) brought the cops.
@Video Beagle: Jimmy realized his time was up. He could spend the rest of his life trying for the last big score or go out in a flash, perhaps removing himself from the board as a tool to use against his son. I saw the cues, but they were undermined by Nate's flashbacks of his father's competence. Would Jimmy really just give up? I'm just not feeling it.
I can't believe the FBI guy didn't catch the Die Hard shout outs. Maybe he thought his kindred spirit was doing it on purpose xD Bow ties are cool. Why 1962 and not 1963?
@ChelseaNH - what flashbacks of Jimmy's competence? They showed Nate shipping Jimmy off to Ireland after making sure there was a price on his head and then Nate leading Jimmy through a pill scam, while Jimmy played the infirm old man.
I also think folks overestimate the length of 24 seconds - that's not a ton of time for an old man who'd just got clocked on the head. Could he have really made it to an overhead warehouse door, lifted it and gotten clear in 24 seconds? No way.
He knew his chances were slim to none and for the reasons discussed above - some selfish and some selfless - he chose to accept his likely fate.
I love how Hardison held the girls back and let Eliot take care of Nate. You can just see that he wanted to be rushing at him, too, but held back because they had to get out of there and they wouldn't have made it in time if they'd all crowded around Nate.
I don't think that's why Hardison held them back at all. I think he was protecting them from the possibility of seeing Nate badly injured or, worse, dying, and giving Eliot time to assess Nate's condition.
"Invention Secrecy Act of 1951"! Got to wonder what exactly are in those patent applications.
Alas, it's probably not very interesting at all - in my experience with tech companies they tend to only patent things if there's no chance of keeping it completely secret (like the Coke formula) or it's something that's likely to be independently created elsewhere (backing store graphics or one-click shopping) and they want to be able to play patent licensing games.
(Also where do I complain that openID is failing?)
You play D&D? Awesome. i've been playing Leverage: The Role Playing Game. My group is having a hard time with the rule Sterling Never Loses (we are on our third set of characters). I keep trying to explain to them, but they don't listen.
So, my question: Nate ford's crew pulls a job, and Sherlock is hired to figure out who did it. Does he figure it out? and can you beat the Grand Moff(et)?
@Jamoche I personally think it is a little more than that. From what I have learned, it was first introduced during WWII to prevent potential weapons from going to market. It was expanded in 1951 (probably because of the Cold War) and, as of 2007, has approximately 5500 patents that are prevented from being patented for "national security reasons."
Free society, huh? (And I am not a conspiracy theorist)
I will say that at the end, when Hardison was holding Sophie and Parker back from going to Nate, I fully expected Sophie to pop him one (like she did in the Potato Job) and go straight to Nate. I don't think Hardison could hold either of those ladies back if they wanted to get past him badly enough. We'll just say that happened after the camera cut away to He Who Shall Not Be Named. :)
I'm sorry, there were some wonderful serious moments in here, and I know I should be all over them but I just can't. Because now I've seen Eliot Spencer's best Die Hard impression and it's not even my birthday!
I'm not from the US, so any Boston locals want to give me a critique of Christian's Boston accent?
Also liked Eliot's exasperation at the quality of thugs - nice call back to the Rashomon Job.
Eliot: Why are you sending second rate thugs to try and kill me? Thug: Hmmmm? Eliot: If I'm not honest with you, you'll never improve.
Right, now that that's done, time to rewatch our past Latimer experiences and figure out at what point [redacted]'s influence came in to play.
@Oona: Jimmy pulled off the pill scam without any trouble, so it's not like he was completely out of gas. And sure, he was shipping Dad off to Ireland, but that was because Dad was still a serious player.
>>Saul Rubinek's character is Victor Dubenich. And when did we hear he had an agent named Latimer?
Saul Rubinek plays a character named Artie Nielson on Warehouse 13 and one of the warehouse agents' names is Pete Latimer (played by Eddie McClintock).
Awesome episode! I didn't think you could top last year's gun fight, but I'm so glad I was wrong! My question: Would the goons really beat Eliot up where all the cops could see them? LOVED the Diehard references.
Well, I was wrong about who was running Latimer. The only thing I got right was that it was someone we'd seen on the show before. I do wee what you meant by consequences as the theme for the season. I'll post questions later after I've been able to read the the thread and see if the ninety-odd comments have left anything I want answered unasked.
I'm speechless! Just, wow. I had a feeling that Dubenich had something to do with the events that were going to unfold in this episode.
I am a total sucker continuity porn and loved seeing some of the more subtle callbacks in the episode, as well the entire season.
Holy Die Hard references! Can we have
Questions: 1. How long has the "bring back Dubenich" card been on the wall? 2. How did Dubenich know that Nate would refuse to work with Latimer, thus setting in motion the plan to use Jimmy as bait to get the team in one place? 3. The scene with where Nate was taking pictures (was that Beth's camera?) of the patent building and Eliot and Hardison showed up behind him had a very 3 Card Monte feel... was that intentional? 4. How different/alike is the building's security system compared to the Steranko from the Inside Job? 5. Why didn't Eliot tape the thugs a little tighter to that pipe? It seems like he made it somewhat easy for the head guy to free himself (love how pissed off he gets about second rate thugs).
Looking forward to next week, but don't to be hiatus time yet.
Amazing echos and changes between the scene of Nate watching Sam die and Nate watching Jimmie die/Eliot watching Nate nearly die. The watching through the window as the unimaginable happens and the terrified rush to the one you love (in different senses, but still). Jimmie standing in the warehouse wanting only for his son to be safe and to tell his stories (who does he want them told to?). Nate watching in horror as his father is blown to pieces for him, and Eliot whose entire life is about keeping them safe (an oddly fatherly thing in this case) unable to shelter his "Father" Three men who would rip out their own hearts for the other if it would just Not Be. That scene was brilliant writing, phenomenal directing, and exquisite acting. God. Do More of that. I'm not even going to ask if I'm giving you too much credit...I hope you're all unspeakably proud of it.
Snorted when Rockford(live here) was mentioned. How'd you guys manage to come up with that one? Glad Rockford is good for something..even if it is just warehousing Dubenich! Was there a scene cut about Lucille, or has she been warehoused in Virgina since last year's finale?
So did you steal the shot of Hardison holding back Sophie and Parker from Brannagh's Henry V when the Herald holds back the women? It looked balanced and blocked the same way. Not to denigrate your directing/camera work/acting...It was a fabulous shot in any case.
Just watched the episode and I must say: Hot Damn! And I *LOVED* the Dubenich reveal at the end! Only one question: Eliot's communication with the FBI agent - was that "Die Hard" influenced?
SaffieDarling -- I am originally from Boston and found Eliot's accent as the cop to be convincing. I believe he's used it before when in a police uniform.
WV: "peary" (a) alleged discoverer of North Pole, (b) similar to peachy
Also, I enjoyed the references to previous episodes, specifically Hardison laminating the fake ID for Sophie and saying something like 'the trick it to not get it too hot' and yet having to gingerly handle the ID much the same way he did with the burrito from Mile High job; and Hardison having Sophie wear the 'pregnant belly' to make her a more convincing hostage reminded me of the 15 Minutes Job.
Kane absolutely killed me with the Die Hard delivery. KILLED ME.
And while I can see the look in Hardison and Parker's eyes that says, "I hope Nate's alright," ... I could see Sophie's eyes that there was a deeper concern, and for that moment, I think she knew there was something deeper than this "whatever we're in" she's been playing at all season.
But most importantly, Tim & Kane. Holy shit. Tim's look is the look of a man who's just had something he didn't realize was important ripped from him. And Kane's face is that of a man who knows he's going to have to protect Nate from Nate's number one enemy right now... NATE.
I cannot tell you how psyched I am about next week's episode. (And how pissed I am that I have to wait until summer for you to come back, but at least you're all still coming back.)
This isn't just your show any more, Rog; it's ours too. Hope you run another 5-10 seasons.
I totally should have seen that coming with all the parallels (stealing patents, no payment double-cross, exploding warehouse), but I didn't and it was awesome.
And now I really want next year's Christmas episode to have the team taking on German 'terrorists'. With Eliot barefoot.
I think I remembered at some point Rogers said that this season we would find out what the worst thing Eliot ever did in his entire life was. However, I went through the Post-Games and didn't find it. Am I making this up?
@Anonymous at 1:40 a.m. - Didn't we find out the worst thing Eliot ever did in the Experimental Job? He killed a buttload of people, some of whom he admits didn't deserve it.
The one thing Rogers has said is that we will never know how many people Eliot has killed. But clearly, it's a lot.
@Devonich - Nate totally has the "thousand yard stare" there, doesn't he?
I've been kind of going over past eps, and I have to say, if this season ends the way I think it's going to end, the foreshadowing has been amazing. Start with Nate's speech about the thing your anger can't beat, then his indignation when the team thought he killed that guy in the costume party job, then walking into the dark in 15 Minutes all the way through his speech to Hardison in Gold Job about the way the job changes you.
I have to say, I've seen a lot of Tim Hutton's movies and TV work, and he's a great actor and he's been in some great (and not so great) stuff over the years, but none of his characters has ever struck a chord with me the way scruffy, drunk, brilliant, dorky and fucked up Nate Ford has.
So kudos to you for writing a great character and keeping him interesting all this time and to TH for doing such an unflinching job portraying his good and not-so-good qualities.
I'm pretty psyched - and a little scared - for this finale!
@ allyone: True, but we could have figured that out from BBJ. Moreover, it's a little vague. A lot of people who "didn't deserve it" could mean he burned half the food supply of DR Congo, thereby killing a fifth of the population of the country, or it could mean he shot some hit men who were after him but didn't deserve to die, because I doubt Eliot would think people deserve to die just because they are hit men who happen to be after him.
I doubt Eliot would think people deserve to die just because they are hit men who happen to be after him.
I don't know, I think Eliot would feel that anyone who comes after him to kill him deserves whatever he does to them. He wasn't exactly just shooting guns out of those guys' hands or "shooting to wound" in BBJ.
I'm not sure I want Rogers & Co. to tell us explicitly what that "worst thing" was. I think it's one of those things best left up to our individual imaginations. Specifying seems to run a risk. Clearly, it was horrible (at least to Eliot), and even unforgivable (again, at least to Eliot).
So what metric should the writers use? Any answer they explicitly give runs the risk of either a) not being "horrible" enough to satisfy our expectations ("Wait, that's it? That's the unforgivable deed? Jeez.") or b) turning Eliot into a monster ("Wait, he did what? Oh, my God!").
I think "Experimental Job" did a fantastic job of answering that question without specifically answering it. Eliot has killed a lot of people, and some of them did not deserve it (and I doubt Eliot counts men coming after him to kill him in that category). Based on what Chapman said in BBJ, I'd be willing to bet wiping out families of Moreau enemies is in there somewhere.
I finally figured out why the "bow ties are cool" quote was bothering me: The Juror #6 Job. Hardsion's been wearing bow ties since he was out ringing door bells with his Nana. The Doctor stole Lil' Alec's look!
@ChelseaNH - Jimmy's an old dog that definitely still knows some tricks, no doubt about it. But he used to be the top dog, and now I'd say he's not even an alpha (I'm totally getting crazy with the canine analogy here, I know).
My perspective is based on what they gave us in the episode and the previous one, Three Card Monte - Jimmy feels disrespected (he wanted to get the ledger in TCM to get some respect from the families again), he feels like he may not be up to the job anymore, and he was used as a tool to get to his son. I mean, of all things to make a guy feel irrelevant - he wasn't even the target, Nate was (the guy who outsmarted him and ran him out of town).
I just think that a guy like Jimmy, used to being on top of his world, who goes to prison and comes out as someone who's not top dog anymore, who's not respected by the organizations he worked for and is only going to go downhill - to me, that creates a baseline where when he sees an opportunity to do something huge and go out in a big way, it makes sense that he would take it.
For a guy like Jimmy -and I know, I've watched a lot of crime movies ;) - I think life is not as important as a certain kind of life and a certain kind of reputation. If he can go out in a blaze of glory and do the right thing by Nate, why not? Who knows, maybe Jimmy didn't expect to live as long as he did working in the crime world for so long?
Hm, I'm not sure I agree with you on Eliot thinking that those who try to kill him deserve to die. If he thought that, he would have just killed Quinn, The Butcher of Kiev, Roper, et al. He didn't even say he intended to kill Dubenich back in Nigerian Job after Dubenich tried to kill them all, but before Nate decided to run game on him. He only said that he was going to hit him really hard.
With the shoot-out in BBJ, it is unclear to me that shooting guns out of people's hands actually works. Guns are meant to kill. He did what he had to do to get Nate, the Italian, and himself out, but he could very well be including those guys on the list of people who did not deserve to die.
As for whether it should be revealed, note that I wasn't expressing an opinion either way; I was just asking whether Rogers promised that it would be, because I thought he did, but I guess not.
Ok, I remembered San Lorenzo Job and take back what I said about shooting without intention to kill, because Eliot and Flores obviously shot Sophie without intending to kill. But still, in BBJ, he was sliding across the concrete on his knees with a dozen people shooting at him, so I still think it would not have been possible to go for disarming or injuring.
I think the worst thing Eliot did, was Killing Innocents (including kids). If I heard correctly in the Big Bang Job, in the car before he *Breaks the guys neck* the other guy had said it was the usual type of killing where they take out the mark and the whole family. So that's why I think it was not only bad guys but innocent people as well. But that's just my opinion on what it was.
This week was a great ep, too many great moments to mention, can't wait for next week. So sad that we have to wait so long for next season to start.
Rogers, I do have to ask: Whose idea was the duct tape? Is there a list (or wall of index cards) of household items the writers would like to see Eliot weaponize?
Also, when we see the flashback to Nate sending Jimmy back to Ireland, it's cut. In the flashback, we go directly from, "Logue. Your mother's maiden name, how sweet" and immediately to "I'm proud of you, son."
But in "Three Card Monte," Jimmy says, "Logue. Your mother's maiden name, how sweet," and then we get, "You betrayed your own father. You're more ruthless than me, crueler than me, yeah, maybe you are better than me. I'm proud of you, son."
So, was there a reason (other than for time) the sequence was cut? Losing all that "I'm proud of you because you're even more a manipulative bastard than I am" kind of changes the Nate-Jimmy dynamic.
Oh, I have to say - thank you for the real explosion at the end. It was enhanced, but SO much better looking than when Lucille was 'blowed' up (as well as few of the other explosions throughout the series)
I guess CGI is cheaper, but really, you get what you pay for....
Anyone care to take bets re what happens in the finale? Here are my guesses:
1) Nate kills Dubenich or 2) Eliot talks Nate out of killing Dubenich. . . .but then later kills Dubenich himself, something along the lines of Mark Wahlberg showing up in Matt Damon's apt in The Departed - Dubenich thinks he's gotten away but suddenly there's Eliot with a gun.
Probably 1) but 2) could be pretty cool too and fits with the Eliot's statement in 401 that he and Parker do the things the others can't.
@Lydia: How did Dubenich know that Nate would refuse to work with Latimer
If Nate took the job, he would have been in the wareshouse for the payment instead of Jimmy. If Nate didn't take the job, Latimer could hire Jimmy to lure Nate. Either way, it works.
What does Dubenich have on Latimer? Or is he collateral damage from one of the jobs that tanked a company's value?
@Oona: I said I "just wasn't feeling it." Which is different than not understanding it. Feelings are always YMMV.
@Oona I kind of remember from an interview where Christian Kane mentioned that if Eliot snapped back to killing people he would become a lot worse. I would be interested to see that development. If Eliot kills for Nathan, he does the right thing but how does that mess with his internal struggles?
I'm waiting for a good Sophie-in-peril episode. I know it's not leverage's style because the women aren't exactly damsel's in distress on this show. They kick ass. But Sophie really takes most of the risk in terms of being physically caught (not injured, mind you, caught). I feel like it would be very realistic for her to be kidnapped or something, given it's her part of the con to be the bait or to be on the marks doorstep, walking into the Lion's den as-it-were. AND a ton of marks would focus their anger at her after being burned by the team because it is her face they will remember. I just find it odd it hasn't happened yet but I understand the showrunners want to show a more positive portrayal of female badasses. Which is totally cool. I'd just like to see this for realism purposes (also it would be cool to call attention to how risky her part of the con is). Besides, Parker practically rescued Hardison in the gravedigger episode. So I don't think anyone would cry foul about feminism. Anyway. Great job on the ep. Leverage is the only show with such consistent quality that I can think of. I feel like it goes without saying that I loved it. Finale will certainly be bittersweet for all of us (awesome ep, long wait for more).
Is this the first time Eliot's fired a gun since the Big Bang job? That moment where he's about to shoot out the window (and he takes a breath and braces himself) is pretty striking, particularly if this is the first time he's had to shoot a gun since he killed all those guys.
^I think he took a big breath because he was about the open the door and fire a gun into a crowd of cops in broad daylight. Not because he was so emotionally affected. I love how complex Eliot is as a character but I'm sure he, as a hitter, can compartmentalize himself enough to where he can fire a gun and be violent in any manner without having to get all emotional right before hand. His emotions run deep.
Apologies if you have answered this before but how much character development do you do before the show airs? I mean, did you know that Nate's father was a kind of street thug when you were developing the pilot or did that idea develop orver time?
Question/comment/complaint: in future, can we have more Eliot fight scenes in well-lit places? I mean, I get that warehouses and such are great places to beat someone up, but the most visually appealing scenes are normally the Eliot-flavoured fisticuffs, and it's always a little disappointing when I can hardly see them unless I turn my brightness way up.
@Rogers I have to aggree with Sue about the podcast. Thank you for giving is this weekly insight in the BTS goings on. I hope they'll continue for season 5.
Will the people on a specific episode podcast also be on that episodes DVD commentary? Or will that be a seperate (later) recording?
@Sue or anyone else Speaking of the podcast. Anyone else having problems with downloading or even listening to it?
Never had any trouble with the earlier episodes but I can't do either this time(on podbear or itunes).
Anyone willing to share an alternative download link?
I solute you. This was an amazing episode. 1)I loved Eliot's Die Hard reference. When he said "a fly in the ointment" that's when I knew. I feel like that would be Eliot's favorite movie anyway. How excited was Kane to play that part and say the line.2)This question is a little weird but I was curious: When you cut off the actors right before they are about to drop the F-bomb, do they finish saying it while shooting, or do they just say f- and then stop? 2)This is irrelevant but the way Parker said, "I'm tryna help you" to Hardison was hilarious for some reason.3)I like that you killed an important character. I know that sounds bad, but it makes it seem like your not afraid to kill someone so it makes dangerous episodes more suspensful if that makes sense. Because in promos when it looks like someone is gonna die I'm like "nothins gonna happen" but you actually did it and not to say that it wasn't tragic, but it added a lot to the episode instead of just someone just trying to kill his dad, they actually did it.4)You know an episode is good when it makes you voice your opinion out loud while your watching it. When the camera was slowly revealing who was behind everything, I was going through possible people, and at first I was like "Damien Moreau!" because of the structure of the jail but when I saw who it was, it was like someone punched me in the face. Perfect ending. I can't wait to see the interactions with the characters and their opposite matches in the finale, most particularly Eliot and Mr. Quin I feel like they will be talking about their previous jobs or something I don't know.Sorry this is so long.
I just realized! I'm finally getting The Wrath of Fajo!
Let me explain, way back in the 90s, when Star Trek: The Next Generation was wrapping up and preparing to move to films, I was part of a discussion where folks were complaining that Next Gen had no "Khan" like villain who could recur in the films.
I suggested that the Kivas Fajo could return in an elaborate plot to get heist Data back. "I had you in my collection before. I'll have you there again!"
And now, I'm sort of getting it... I think Wrath of Dubenich will likely be more interesting, though.
Okay, I absolutely hate it when fans complain about stuff on TV because it sounds so entitled. I'm so grateful to you guys for everything you do and I realize it's not your job to please me as an individual. But the internet has been invented so I have to say this. So hear it goes:
Nate and Sophie's courtship used to be so romantic (almost nauseatingly). Now it's kind of skanky. Don't get me wrong, I'm not even asking for anything to change! I justttt want to call attention to the fact that it wasn't long ago Nate tried to steal a kiss from Sophie in a cemetery only for her to shy away (practically stopping my lil shipper heart) and now he's all "we're not datin, we're just bangin'". Not that there isn't something kind of hot about that. But I was just re-watching the Two Live Crew episode and I was like "WHOA. I totally forgot they used to be like that with each other".
Anyway. The reason I don't see this as complaining is because I admit that this whole "friends with bennies" thing seems to be the antidote to the moonlighting curse. I remember reading a House/Cuddy fanfiction (yeah, I'm a nerd, whatever) called "Maldroit" (look it up, it was good) and all the huddy fans were like "why can't the showrunners realize that this is exactly how a relationship between two main character should play out over the course of several seasons?" and it seemed like the perfect solution. It involved some friends with benefits stuff. Anyway, good job on moving the relationship forward without killing it, very clever. BUTTT it seems like there was such a huge tonal shift in their relationship that has gone unnoticed by most people nowadays. I like everything you're doing. But yeah, heed what I'm sayin.
Also, please tell Gina Bellman that I just watched Jekyll and it so fucking tight. She was awesome and gorgeous in it.
fuck that. If I were Sophie, no way would I marry a man who still refers to his ex as his "wife". Sounds like some bullshit to me. She's my girl. I'm just holdin it down.

Eliot reminded me of Michael Westen with the way he was working that duct tape!
I enjoyed the Hardison/Parker/Warehouse 13 cross-over.
I just had a thought, not specifically about this episode, but about the future of the show: If the crew is moving to Portland for next season, then does that mean we won't see any more of Bonnano or Lady Cop (whose name I never remember)? That will be so sad. I love them.
I saw the end coming, but man was it awesome. More of an I WAS RIGHT moment.
And heeey, I recognized that music during the time travel montage. Did you have to pay for that?
Yes, Hardison was definitely in Warehouse 13! And I loved the Dr. Who-esque music for the time machine prop. Hardison had the bow tie, now he just needs a fez. :)
Oh, and by the way the ending was AMAZING!!! Oh, the war has definitely started now. I am looking forward to the guest stars for next week. I do hope there will be at least one that was NOT shown in the previews, as I would love to be surprised.
Well done. I guessed who was behind it at the very end, but well done.
How hilarious were the Die Hard references. Christian did Bruce Willis proud. Did he enjoy being John McClane for the day?
Wow, just wow!!!!! I knew it; I knew he was going to be the "surprise"!
"Bow-Ties are cool." Sniff... I love you, man.
But damn... that ending. I knew we'd see *CENSORED* again one day. Just knew it. Of course *CENSORED* just declared war... on Nathan Ford.
May God Have Mercy on His/Her Soul.
Holy Shit. Completely speechless.
Wow - totally dumbstruck. Really fastpaced ep and very tense last 5 minutes there. Whew. Damn I wish both parts were being shown back to back.
My mind=BLOWN! WH13 and Leverage crossover? That's how it's going down in my head at least.
Call me slow but I didn't see that twist coming, I now officially have to call off work next Sunday so I can be home to watch it ASAP.
Oh my God. All I can say is, why must you make me wait until next week? Questions:
Sorry, forgot something.
6. Where did Hardison get the bow tie? Or did he have it on before?
...and it starts with a flashback.
Caught it even before the Yippi Ki Yi M******
This episode seemed like a normal con up until the last five minutes.
You've been threatening that end all along. Rather, you've been passing along HIS threats all along.
PURE AWESOME!

Great episode!
this ...this...THIS is why I love this show.
Great mix of comedy, drama, tension... suspense!!!
Thank you so much
As I posted on twitter...
"Can we get parker's time machine and fast forward to next week? #Leverage OMG Most Excellent @Chrdowney @Fizzhogg @Electric44"
Not sure I can wait an entire week!
(Er, not montage. Segment. My bad)
OH. MY. GOD.
I just … I don't even …
I feel kind of bad that none of the whiskey in our house is Irish.
I did so love Eliot as John McLane. Yippee ki yi yay, motherf–
But, still, I think you just broke me. Not to mention Nate.
P.S. – Can it be next week now? Pleeeeze???
Came for the Doctor Who/ Wh13 crossovers? Was not disappointed.
I won't be able to watch until tomorrow and appreciate the no spoiler request.
I highly approve of your excuse for lateness.Go bust some Umber Hulk ass!
'muncymeo': New Miyazaki movie.
Niiiice tips of the fedora to Doctor Who and Die Hard and Warehouse 13.
And fantastic choice of final bad guy. I knew the actor was coming bad for an ep, but this . . . And it looks like it's old home week for the next one.
I love you guys so, so much.
@Courtney: "Fighting with duct tape makes you smart."
@Anonymous: He's the Anti-Eliot hitter from "The First David Job".
woh! well done..when I saw the explosion, I just thought how much it totally reminds me of "that" episode. Then I saw the ending! Great job!
Man. I mean . . . it just . . .
man.
"Yippie ki yay, motherf-" "Found it!"
"Bow ties are cool."
And oh, poor Nate. Poor, poor Nate.
What edition of D&D are you playing? Because 4e ain't no old school, man.
-----------------------------------
This episode was literally a movie! I can't wait for all the guest stars next week!
My main question:
What happened to the people expecting the million dollars?
--James Firecat
Wow, this episode made me laugh out loud all the Die Hard references, it made me gasp and finally broke my heart...I know Nate is going to go Postal but at least he will have the team at his back.. The main thing about the writing on this show is that you make us feel like we are right there experiencing it with everyone. Just Thank You.
@James Firecat – It's Quinn. Christian tweeted a photo while they were filming the finale.
---James Firecat
I knew it! I got it from the callback number Eliot found. Only one thing made sense.
Still not sure where the company name fits in though.
I hope you all have as much fun doing thisas we do watching it. Bravo to all!
Wow. Wow. Just Wow.
Wow. Just...wow. "Tell 'em how much Jimmy Ford loved his son."
Well, you have been teasing this for a while now. About time you brought the Legion of Marks into the light.
Saving comments and questions for next week but...damn, I called it and it still blew my mind.
I haven't been this excited about television in five years. I LOVE EVERYTHING. That last scene just...just...damn.
-Tracy
...Ignoring that.
-I definitely babble-
So I guess season 4's theme is season 1? Or not.
Thanks for reading such non-sense of mine!
I suppose the obvious question is: what was the thinking behind the decision to kill Jimmy?
This was brilliant!
I have 2 questions about this ep:
Parker says that maybe Jimmy used the time machine to go to 1962.
6. Where did Hardison get the bow tie? Or did he have it on before?
Self-tying bow-tie from the Aisle of Misfit Toys^h Inventions?
I looked at Nate's face in that last scene and thought "Never a good idea to anger a trickster god".
Vin Diesel plays D&D

OK, questions:
1) The Inventions Suppression/Secrecy Act thingy - ledger or black box? (I want it to be ledger, yet I have a bad feeling it's probably not ...)
2) Who is Parker's favourite Doctor?
Alright, now that I've gathered myself. Ahem.
Gah! Mind blown. Loved it!
@Izzie - "The paramedic's yelp was really funny."
I thought for a minute I was going to have to turn in my Leverage membership for not recognizing Quinn!
oh
my
god
You are fabulous.
I can not begin to tell you how much I LOVED this episode. Too many cool bits to call out, but rest assured I will be watching it again and again and again.
Well done and I can't wait 'til next week!
1)Jimmy was dizzy and disoriented from being slugged;
2)he wanted to give himself up for his son to do something right for a change - as Video Beagle said, take himself off of the board, so he could no longer be used as a piece against Nate;
3)he was feeling fatalistic anyway ("maybe I don't have that last score in me");
4)he was still an arrogant bastard and he didn't want to die a quiet old man's death in Ireland.
My inner conspiracy theorist says Jimmy Ford ran out the back door at the last second and is just letting the world think he's dead. :)
I can't believe the FBI guy didn't catch the Die Hard shout outs. Maybe he thought his kindred spirit was doing it on purpose xD
Bow ties are cool. Why 1962 and not 1963?
Nevermind the above. I just got it. Hardison called her on being a year off.
Thank you for the paroxysms of Who-induced joy :D
@Izzie:
Blog Commenter A Burton just blew my mind.
"I should have known it was Artie (Saul Rubinek) earlier, because his agent's name is Latimer."
Did anyone else clue in to that? WOWs!!!
Right, now that that's done, time to rewatch our past Latimer experiences and figure out at what point [redacted]'s influence came in to play.
uhm, folks..the no spoiler period expired after the second showing last nite.
>> "I should have known it was Artie (Saul Rubinek) earlier, because his agent's name is Latimer."
First of all, ARCHIE is Parker's mentor.
Saul Rubinek's character is Victor Dubenich. And when did we hear he had an agent named Latimer?
@Oona: Jimmy pulled off the pill scam without any trouble, so it's not like he was completely out of gas. And sure, he was shipping Dad off to Ireland, but that was because Dad was still a serious player.
@Anonymous
>>First of all, ARCHIE is Parker's mentor.
>>Saul Rubinek's character is Victor Dubenich. And when did we hear he had an agent named Latimer?
Saul Rubinek plays a character named Artie Nielson on Warehouse 13 and one of the warehouse agents' names is Pete Latimer (played by Eddie McClintock).
Correction
...and the name of one of the warehouse agents is Pete Latimer.
I can haz grammerz.
Ok. I just have to ask. How did you find Michael Pare? Did he audition or did ask for him? He did a great job! HAHA!
I put my vote in the ring now. He would make a great recurring authority character for Season 5. :)
Was Parker's fantasy time machine a re-purposed Steranko scanner?
And "We're Homeland Security--we're not paid to think. We're paid to act!"
OMG. If I had been drinking anything, it would've come out my nose.
I'm speechless! Just, wow. I had a feeling that Dubenich had something to do with the events that were going to unfold in this episode.
I am a total sucker continuity porn and loved seeing some of the more subtle callbacks in the episode, as well the entire season.
Holy Die Hard references! Can we have
Questions:
"When you find there is nothing, left to begin, you can't go home again."
Great episode!
@Jamoche: I looked at Nate's face in that last scene and thought "Never a good idea to anger a trickster god".
THIS. A thousand times this.
So did you steal the shot of Hardison holding back Sophie and Parker from Brannagh's Henry V when the Herald holds back the women? It looked balanced and blocked the same way. Not to denigrate your directing/camera work/acting...It was a fabulous shot in any case.
PLEASE,MORE DOCTOR WHO REFERENCES
Please,more Doctor Who References.
On a completely unrealted note, what does it take to get Leverage on Netflix?
- Anonymous from 7:55 post
General question: Will we ever see Maggie again? I like her a lot.
This episode is so sad but so great at the same time. Loved the various references.
I bet my thee card monte he is still alive...
Anon from 1:40
@ allyone: True, but we could have figured that out from BBJ.
@Anon at 5:35:
@ SueN: (Anon to whom you replied)
I'm really sorry if this is getting off topic...
(same anon)
Ok, I remembered San Lorenzo Job and take back what I said about shooting without intention to kill, because Eliot and Flores obviously shot Sophie without intending to kill. But still, in BBJ, he was sliding across the concrete on his knees with a dozen people shooting at him, so I still think it would not have been possible to go for disarming or injuring.
@Countess of the Monte Cristo,
Yes, Maggie WILL becoming back... for the season finale next week.
Oops, that was supposed to be me.
1) Nate kills Dubenich
or
2) Eliot talks Nate out of killing Dubenich. . . .but then later kills Dubenich himself, something along the lines of Mark Wahlberg showing up in Matt Damon's apt in The Departed - Dubenich thinks he's gotten away but suddenly there's Eliot with a gun.
Probably 1) but 2) could be pretty cool too and fits with the Eliot's statement in 401 that he and Parker do the things the others can't.
@firelizardkimi - I agree, I guess I meant EMT/medic depending on the call.
I can buy Sophie getting out of straps fast especially if no one is back there to stop her!
wv: quesser - 1/2 question; 1/2 guesser
The red-sleeved guy holding Dubenich at gunpoint certainly ain't Nate. I'll bet on 2.
The 'red-sleeved guy' is probably Eliot. Christian posted a picture on Twitter of him and 'Quinn' and he was wearing a red shirt
@oona: your option 2 is brilliant. I really hope it happens, and may head-canon it anyway if it doesn't.
@ChelseaNH - gotcha!
@Oona I kind of remember from an interview where Christian Kane mentioned that if Eliot snapped back to killing people he would become a lot worse. I would be interested to see that development. If Eliot kills for Nathan, he does the right thing but how does that mess with his internal struggles?
Any chance of linking to that interview, anon?
@Jess Starts around 1:28s
I actually saw this on leverage wiki first under Eliot's character background.
@anon Much obliged.
-Ruby
Apologies if you have answered this before but how much character development do you do before the show airs? I mean, did you know that Nate's father was a kind of street thug when you were developing the pilot or did that idea develop orver time?
Lovely episode!
Didn't really catch why all the lights suddenly went on when Nate walked in. Why is that? Automatic? :\
Sorry for stupid question lol.
I just want to let you know how much I appreciate and love the Leverage10 podcasts. I may actually squeak when I see one is available. ;)
Seriously, y'all treat us so well, and I'm eternally grateful.
Next week's ep, can't wait...I'm gonna need a bigger mocha.
I have this prediction for next week: We're all going to wish for more. :D
@Sue or anyone else
Speaking of the podcast.
@Jane, I got the podcast from iTunes without any problems. Sorry I can't help with any other links.
-Ree
Why errybody in this show wear goofy-ass sunglasses? Is that an inside joke?
Also, I love Annie Croy. When she coming back?
-T
Some of these comments are hilarious.
@whoever suggested Nate and Sophie get married.
fuck that. If I were Sophie, no way would I marry a man who still refers to his ex as his "wife". Sounds like some bullshit to me. She's my girl. I'm just holdin it down.
-Tracy
Okay, posting this a couple of days after the finale aired, but since it has to do with this episode, I'll post it here.
Has anyone realized that Aldis Hodge's first role credited on IMDb is a DIE HARD movie? (Die Hard: With a Vengeance)
Seriously?!
(And he was on Castle! With Mal Reynolds! *dies of squeeage*)
BEAST Yang Yoseob has shed tears during the recordings of “Hello”.
A representative from KBS2 “Hello” had revealed on the 14th of August, that Beast were invited as special guests on “Hello”. During the recordings, BEAST member Yang Yoseob, shed tears when talking about dreams to be singers.
According to that representative, “When aspiring singers talked about their singing dreams, and how it’s hard to chase them and expressed their sad thoughts of giving this dream up, Yang Yoseob was seen choking with tears”. Yang Yoseob was also a singer who faced many setbacks before he managed to debut. Because of this, he could understand the feelings of those who aspires to be singers, hence the tears.

ng Yoseob even had times where he wanted to give up on his dreams, but he held on and came to his current agency with Lee Kikwang. Eventually, he became a part of BEAST.
It was also reported that BEAST officials couldn’t hide their surprise when they heard that the usual-manly Yoseob cried during the recording process.
