"You Actually Call It the Whedonverse. Huh."
A buck-ten to whoever can ID that quote, brought to mind because, in this pic, I am actually doing the whole douche-y "This is the shot ..." thing with my hands. That's DP Dave Connell to my right, my 1st AD Matt to my left, and Line Producer Paul Bernard walking away, looking for something sharp to stick in his eye. Because the words coming out of my mouth at that moment are, no lie: "To the left is the burning tank."

The quote's from Robot Chicken, the first episode in season 4 in a sketch about getting renewed. Good choice!

I have a completely different phrase and image in mind when I see the "This is the shot ..." thing, thanks to Kevin Smith.

My hometown's pretty much a giant, four county suburb. When a bunch of dudes stand in an empty field and hold their hands like that, they're saying, "To the left is the McDonald's pad site." I prefer the burning tank. It's not half as douche-y.
Definitely the Robot Chicken episode where they got renewed, had a massacre, then the best writer cameos ever with a cackling Joss Whedon, psycho Ron Moore and super-perfect Seth McFarlane.
But then, I'm not first...

It is indeed the Robot Chicken episode with Seth MacFarland doing the season four renewal, but so far no one has identified the actual speaker, which if I recall correctly was Seth Green when they approached him to write for Whedon. I loved that ending with MacFarland telling them to duck as Moore and Whedon shoot each other followed up with MacFarland going "and checkerboard wipe..." leading into the standard intro. How can anyone not love Robot Chicken eh? One of the great parody works on modern culture IMHO, I wish there was ten no a hundred times as much of it as there is! (Yes, I have a weird sense of humour, I go from Python to Wayne and Shuster to Robot Chicken and Moral Oral, just to give a taste of how twisted my sense of humour truly is. I mean really, to survive watching politics as much as I have in my life a well developed sense of humour is a necessity for retention of what tattered remnants of sanity I have left!)

But I'm curious to know what might be to the right of the burning tank . . .

Not just the burning desire to be right and/or to be right first -- but also the burning desire to be rightesr and firstest.
I kind of deeply worry at how much I empathize with line producers. It's kind of what I want to do, and yet if ever there was a job that looked soul-destroying...
Line producers drink a lot, don't they? (Or do they just wish they could, but they can't, because everyone else is doing it and SOMEONE needs to get things done?)
