Final Fantasy Advent Children

Fine, it didn't make any sense. But DAMN that was some fine fight choreography, and just a laundry list of camera moves to "borrow."

I didn't even know most of those characters, but the "reunion fight" in the second act -- that's how you introduce characters. Think Giles zapping Dark Willow, but five times.

Worth it for the spectacle.

I... don't understand. What are you talking about?

Also, Giles never zapped Dark Willow. BUFFY ends with Season 5. All that UPN crap never happened. (It makes it hard to reconcile some of the ANGEL stuff, but, still, I'll take that over accepting the validity of BUFFY Season 6 and 7.)

Oh wow, a schism in BUFFY fandementalism. Will future wars be fought between the, um, WB-ites and UPN-ees?

And I DO know what you're talking about, John, and if you haven't played Final Fantasy VII yet, what are you doing wasting your time writing comic books, movies, and TV shows?

Sephiroth awaits you!

I only play Knights Of The Old Republic I and II.

It's better that way.

Of course, AC does make more sense if you've played the game. I haven't even beaten FF7 but damn AC was cool.

If only they'd do something like that for FF8.

Wow, I really do hope Chimera! was kidding on some level. Seasons 6 and 7 kicked serious ass!

FF:AC is absolutely gorgeous. The fight scene with Bahamut was absolutely stunning; the amount of teamwork shown and the level of trust between the character was amazing.

And it does make sense.

You, um, just have to watch it about 25 times. Like me. ;-)

Remind me sometime and I will regale you with stories of how that movie has divided the computer graphics/visual effects industry.

I like the motion aesthetic and choreography, but despise the diffused computer lighting, the lackluster facial rigging/animation, and the lack of keyframe animation.

But still, very pretty.

No kidding, Beaker. Seasons Six and Seven are slopping full o' toxic crap. Buffy does Spike, not just once but over and over again? Oh please. Willow goes evil, but then gets better? Oh PLEASE. The Three Geeks? Oh for the love of fuck PLEASE. And then out of all three of those guys, the one they pick to live is fucking ANDREW?? AUGGHHHHH HELP ME HELP ME I FEEL THE NEED TO THROTTLE A MAN NAMED WHEDON!!!!

Season 7 had brief flashes where it looked as if it might make some vague gesture towards atoning for the horrors of Six -- hey, I skipped right over that whole 'working for the evil fast food place' thing, didn't I? But boy was that an 'oh please' -- but then it lapsed into utter blithering stupidity about halfway through and never recovered. "Say, the house is full of hot mid-teen age girls who will abruptly all become hot late-teen age girls when Willow wants to date one of them -- and no one can remember actually so much as brushing up against Giles for the last six weeks -- but it turns out that's all just a coincidence and he's really not the First after all, we were just messing with your head!" Fuckers. Hate. Hate. Hate. And then "I need to show these punks that a Slayer can triumph over any odds, so I'll get into the pit with this unstoppable monster and come up with a cool plan to beat it that will use all my friends' various different skills and abilities and whoa! I garrotted it with barbed wire! Because I am SO DAMNED BITCHIN!"

Oh, PLEASE. That was her whole plan?

Much much easier to just assume she stayed dead at the end of Season 5. And, you know, ignore all that crappy stuff where Andrew showed up in ANGEL Season 5, too. Because it should have been Jonathan, and someday, when I have a program that lets me edit imagery, it will be, too.

Wow.

... I have no idea why you called me Beaker.

You would prefer Hans Moleman?

Heeey. No picking on Hans Moleman.

Chimera! said "No kidding, Beaker. Seasons Six and Seven are slopping full o' toxic crap. Buffy does Spike, not just once but over and over again?"

Of course Buffy does Spike!! Who wouldn't given the chance?? By season 6 Spike was a LOT hotter than Angel - James Marsters aged much better than David Boreanaz.
Yes, plot wise season six started to loose it, but visually it was great.

Hell, Six is still my favorite season so you are all full of cr.... oh, never mind.

But I still don't know what the hell "Final Fantasy Advent Children" is about.

While I've never seen anyone tackle the monstrous job of dissecting every last thing that was horrifying, appalling, and flatly straight up ass puckered WRONG about the sixth season -- and, honestly, the thought of doing it makes me weep; it would take years and cost millions of lives -- still, I found an article on the Web that does a pretty good job of dissecting all that crap for Season 7.

Hehe.

I think one of the humorous scenes was the fight in the church, and as soon as it is over, the chap's cellphone goes off playing the FF7 victory music.

Lovely movie though. Can't wait to buy it for my PSP.

Well. That's a matter of opinion, and not presented very clearly, at that. Comes across as extraodinarily fan-boyish.

And nice fake picture of Sarah he uses, too. :p

Um, gee... you think?

>>and not presented very clearly, at that.

Write your own. Your mastery of stating the obvious leads me to believe it would be much, MUCH better. Oh my yes.

>> Comes across as extraodinarily fan-boyish.

Whereas a thirty word response to a lengthy, cogent analysis comes across as so goddam grown up that the gods themselves can do nothing but applaud.

>>And nice fake picture of Sarah he uses, too. :p

Another stunningly lucid jab! You de man, Kevin. I mean it. You totally rock. You should be an Academy Award voter. They need really brilliant blokes like you.

When I first heard of "Advent Children", my first thought was that this is the movie they should have made instead of "Spirts Within". (Great Visuals but the script felt like "Aliens" rewritten by hippies.) Can't wait to see it.

By the by, If I ever meet a woman who responds to the question "Did you cry when Aris died" with an empathic yes, I will make her my bride.

Kevin Sole said...

The 'fake picture' comment wasn't a jab; it was a snide remark, a joke. That should have been obvious, but you were too busy trying to attack me to notice.

His critique sucked. I have no interest in writing my own. The Academy Awards are a joke.

And back to the subject of Advent Children:

Makes no sense, but very pretty, love the soundtrack.

From a fan perspective: Cloud quit angsting at the game, dammit, Yuffie needed to kick much more ass (...okay, I was rooting for her to smack Cloud for being an idiot), and there should have been more Zack and more Red XIII/Nanaki (the cat-wolf with the flaming tail). Also, Reno appears to have spent most of the movie stoned.

Wow. I think I love you.

I don't even know you I know, but my husband and I waited years for that movie to come out. So we pre-ordered it and then found it on the web with a good fansub.

We've watched it twice that way. We'll probably watch it twice more before they release the dvd. :-)

Actually the best part of the movie was the Turks and Rufus. I loved the whole we are so getting our asses kicked but keep getting back up.

Then there is the boss man Rufus, you spend most of the movie wondering what side he was on and when he shows you he proved why he was too damn cool for the video game.

Anonymous said...

aye, Advent Children is damn cool, man. (i didn't play the game though and Advent Children's my first intro to it man. but overall, still cool. i dig Reno, man. Rude was nice too, iguess... heh.)
