The one thing I'd like to see make a comeback is gray-haired doctors. I'm sure the new guy will be great, but I'd hoped that a company like the BBC was less in thrall to the "younger & hotter" casting impulse.
Also, I just found out about the Leverage RPG from Margret Weiss Productions. Has this been mentioned previously?
The one thing I'd like to see make a comeback is gray-haired doctors. I'm sure the new guy will be great, but I'd hoped that a company like the BBC was less in thrall to the "younger & hotter" casting impulse.
As I understand it, the current Who production schedule takes a serious toll on the Doctor's actor, and the older the actor, the more likely they'll develop health problems. It doesn't rule out an older Doctor, but basically the production team will be looking for someone who they feel can handle the schedule (even David Tennant developed a couple of health problems during filming.)
Originally, Steven Moffat wanted a mid-30s to mid-40s Doctor actor, and was complaining about there being too many mid-20s actors on the audition list. Matt Smith came in... and completely upended Moffat's assumptions.
After the comedy of the regeneration scene, which was fun as usual, I'm relieved to hear Matt Smith's Doctor talk with such confidence. I didn't want a goofy Doctor.

But did anyone see "Blink" on BBC America yesterday. They had a different preview that ran twice and TOTALLY ROCKED. The new BBC one shows about a third of what the BBC America one does. it really has me excited!!

This airs on what is iPad Day here in the US: April 3rd.
Hmmm... too damned bad the iPad can't do DiVX/XViD AVI video files! This would probably be the first thing people watch on it.
I'm still a little sad to see David leave the role, but from what I've seen so far, Matt is just the one to take his place. I am extremely ready for series 5!
So so wish that I could've made it out to Con-Con. The closest I've got is Wheaton at PAX East this coming weekend. (::squee!::)

Suddenly there's abunch of Doctor Who fans discussing Leverage and the Who in-jokes you use. It's time for a cross-over Rogers! Either that or ask Gina to ask The Grand Moff if you could have an episode to write.
The third Doctor (Jon Pertwee) used weapons in many of his adventures, and was never loathe to break out the hand-to-hand combat, either. The lines delivered in this trailer do remind me somewhat of the third Doctor's personality.
Also, in his own regard, David's Doctor performance brought back reflections of Colin Baker as the fifth Doctor. They even had an in character face-to-face as part of the Children in Need bit before Voyage of the Damned.
While each incarnation of The Doctor is very much their own individual, it's never (or rather rarely) a bad thing for later actors to continue past behavior quirks as a means of maintaining the core character.
I have always liked the 3rd Doctor best of the original set, so having a new Doctor in his flavor will make me very happy. I'll miss the velour suit and the Brigadier, though.

And Bessie. I really do miss Bessie. But even with the dashing about and the Venusian Aikido he still rarely did more than disable and disarm. Or maybe that's just the haze of my misbegotten youth clouding my memory.
