Geektastic - Parker stats

I'm finishing a movie rewrite, but to keep you amused here's Parker as I statted her out for True20, from a discussion on modern RPG systems over on the EN World Forums.

8th level Parker in True 20 would be

Parker
Expert 8

Str +2
Dex +4
Int +1
Wis +0
Con +1
Cha -1

Background: Criminal: Burglar (from Expert's Handbook)

FEATS (2 BG, 4 starting, 7 level-ups)

Second Chance (Trigger Alarms)
Talented (Disable Device & Stealth)

Talented (Acrobatics & Athletics)
Talented (Bluff & Sleight of Hand)
Benefiit (Alternate ID's)
Firearms Training

Talented (Notice & Search)
Skill Mastery Acrobatics/ Disable Device / Stealth / Sleight of Hand
Challenge: Disable Device - Fast Task
Slow Fall
Acrobatic Bluff
Sneak Attack
Challenge: Stealth - Slip between cover

SKILLS (2 BG, 9 starting, 9sp/level)

+17 Disable Device (uses Dex as she's usually lockpicking)
+17 Stealth
**************
+17 Acrobatics
+15 Athletics
+5 Bluff
+17 Escape Artist
+3 Gather Information
+12 Knowledge (crime)
+13 Notice
+14 Search
+17 Sleight of Hand

TOUGH: +1
FORT: +3
REF: +10
WILL: +2

Combat Bonus: +6
Dodge: 20
Parry: 18
Reputation: +3
Wealth: +18

Virtue: Fearless
Vice: Greedy

or, arguably

Virtue: Crazy
Vice: Crazy

Possessions: Lockpicks, specialized climbing gear, 9mm pistol (attack +10, Damage DC 18), Alternate ID documents

Parker's bright, surprisingly strong from climbing (her 6th level Att bonus went to STR) and tough from her childhood. She concentrates during heists but is otherwise easily distracted, evening out her WIS. She's attractive, but is oblivious to the fact and is really bad with people (neg CHA)

Note that I folded Climb and Jump into Athletics because, well, all right-thinking humans do so. She started with Bluff (for pickpocketing) and Gather Information (finding fences for her loot) but then never really levelled them up. I only used Talented, not Skill Focus -- I only allow one or the other in my campaigns. Also, all these feats are from the True20 core rulebook. The Expert's Splatbook has a few more tasty treats.

Geek out in the Comments.

  1. Now you have to do the whole team!

As if it's not enough that my fellow players compare my characters with Parker since Leverage ep1... Now I can compare the stats... :D

wee bit off topic... Just to brag a bit, this evening we are starting a Savage Worlds campaign named Sky Pirates of the Caribbean! in 1930s... with our own zeppelin :D

Thank you for the goodnes that is Leverage :*

  3. I think she'd take a hit to WIS based on her impulsiveness.

Like Carmen said, I totally want to see the rest of the team now.

  4. Firearms training is an interesting Feat choice considering that I think the only time we've seen her handle a gun is when she pickpocketed one during The Twelve Steps Job. Is this a bit of writer foreknowledge seeping into the character build, or is it some automatic assumption of the system that such a character automatically acquires such a Feat?

  5. I've been thinking about working the team in DC Heroes stats -- there's a whole website and active elist of folks doing all kinds of media characters in that RPG, and I liked my Veronica Mars work for it, so...

...but, first I suppose I should finish the FIREFLY characters.

I'm not really up on my True20... I'm a 3.5/Pathfinder guy. But it's cool to have canonical RPG stats for Parker. (And yes, I wanna see the rest of the team too)!

Alignment-wise, I'm pegging her at Chaotic Good, shifting from Chaotic Neutral.

  7. @Kai She totes a gun in the pilot as well.

Mr. Rogers, you have made my morning in a powerfully geeky way. Thank you.

  8. @Rob: Tsk, good catch, sir. Forgot about that.

Actually, this reminds me of something else. Shouldn't she have some sort of Demolitions Feat or Skill to represent her seeming affinity with explosives? I don't know if True20 lumps that under Disable Device or not.

  9. rrrg, good point on the demo. This is why I prefer skill groups ...

If you fold escape artist into Disable Device/Acrobatics or redistribute some skill points ...she's good at climbing and jumping but not supernaturally good, so you could steal some from there

  10. You do realize that now you've set everyone up to expect you to stat the entire team. And who knows - most sci/fantasy shows get their own RPG games out, maybe you can get rights to release a Leverage game after another season or two

  11. @Rogers: Well, to be fair we haven't really seen her blow up much else since then.

    Hint hint.

I love how her CHA is in negs. It's brilliant, and it works so perfectly.

  13. You know, in retrospect, she likes explosions, but she's not particularly good at them. It's always overkill. Hardison, on the other hand, is a dab hand with explosives, as is Eliot.

Thanks for this - helps to deal with the Hiatus. Ugh. But where's Eliot? (And Hardison for that matter.) Kane does not seem to be happy.

I so don't have any idea what all that means. I think I may have outed myself as a non-geek.

  16. How can you out yourself if you're posting anonymously? Fingerprints on the keyboard?

Does this mean we can hope to see Jaime Reyes statted in Mutants and Masterminds?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Oof, Jaime's suit is more a power container, as in the Ultimate Power splatbook. Tough.

  19. Why, why, why! did I never discover RPG as a youth?! I love the people and the talk, and it seems harder to pick out gamers as adults (we get better at camouflage as we age, I think). And would anyone have patience with a 45yr old noob?

  20. Speaking of SAVAGE WORLDS and 30s pulp, afficianados of either or both may be interested in this, a blogspot page I did as a reference point for a so-themed SW scenario I designed last summer.

Never got to run it, but its central villain, Dr. Julius Vector, was slated to pull up to the docking spire atop the Empire State Building in a vast black dirigible, where he planned to install and activate a Zombie Ray that would have brought the dead back to life (in ravenous form, natch) throughout 1936 New York City... assuming, of course, the Fearless Heroes didn't stop him.

Maybe someday I'll get to run it.

i don't even know what most of that means, but please, please, please do more for the rest of the team :D

  22. @cmcq: Poke around for local gaming stores (many are sneakily concealed as comics stores in the yellow pages). Some groups will post notes about looking for players and the like. Talk to the store folk and regulars. Might take some poking around, but it's not usually hard to find groups that welcome new players. And age is rarely an issue (my own group has a mix of early 40's down to 'too young to share my Templeton Rye with').

@Rogers: Your remark about liking skill groups gets me thinking about Shadowrun. And as I was reading the Parker stats and your reasoning behind them I started mentally translating them into that system. If I come up with something coherent and in parallel with your bits, would emailing them to you be taken amiss?

  23. @Doc Nebula

Thank you, that would be usefull :D

  24. @CEI - I like to believe that my fondness for Leverage is partially due to it being the closest thing to a (The best EVAR) Shadowrun campeign on tele....

Or at least how shadorun should be attempted to be played.

But that's just me, I'm like that.

  25. cmcq,

I'm a 48 year old gamer, largely reviled by my local gaming community because I think D&D is a retarded game system, and am not shy about sharing that opinion.

Having said that, I will also say that if you're looking for a D&D game in Louisville, KY, you'd have no trouble finding one if you went to LouisvilleRPG.com. There are always ongoing games looking for new blood there. I even found a bunch of new players for my home brew,World of Empire... but if you want to play something established, you'd have no difficulty hooking up.

Of course, you're probably not near Louisville, but it seems to me, if a nearing 50 GM can find gamers here, you should be able to hook up wherever you are. Just go to comics shops and look for bulletin boards. Do a Google search on "RPG", "roleplaying game", "roleplaying campaign", "Dungeons & Dragons", etc, etc, along with your local city name or zip code. See what comes up. Geeks are always looking for other geeks to hang with.

  31. @rogers: I'll put 'em together over my holiday weekend. And as you get others out in True20 (along with the write-up of why-this-skill and how-that-fits), I'll do the same to them. :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. @rogers: Just putting this in here, but did the Parker shadowrun stats I sent make it to your email? I know it took a couple months, but reality interfered as it tends to do. Just wasn't sure if the email got through as I was having net issues that week.
