I'm curious, though: Most of what I've heard you say about BB involves the (perhaps idiosyncratic? I can't tell) way it relates to the rest of the DC Universe. How accessible do you think the collected arc will be outside DC Fanboistan?
(I mean, I can see that there are some characters in there I'll be able to relate to. I just can't tell whether the plot is going to make any sense.)
Batman should change his cape to black afte realizing that he and Blue Beetle look too similar. Another idea I have is that someone should shout out "Bluuuuuuuue Beeeeeetllle", but I don't know why. And just maybe someone can call him, pejoratively, a Coleopter.
BB relates to the rest of the DCU in an odd way primarily because the character was introduced before we got to do our issue #1. He was involved in the massive Infinite Crisis event of last year, and then there was a company wide "One Year Later" jump -- so in theory we would have had to skip a whole year of our newbie superhero, when the whole point of Keith and I doing him WAS to explore the newbie superhero issues.
Ginormous. Pain. In the Ass.
That said, the title istself stays resolutely outside the various DCU continuity travails. We're a wee self-comntained story set in El Paso. Pick up the trade and #7. you'll get a fine idea of what we're doing.
Loving the new series, great to see Cully on the art.
More importantly the book reads great because it's a real mystery. The pacing is great and we still are learning about the scarab.... I'm hoping we'll learn more soon but not everything... I like the mystery.
Dropped BB after #2 for financial reasons, but couldn't help myself and picked up #8 this week and liked it just as much as I hoped I would. Unfortunately my comic shop is low on back issues. I know I can catch up on #3-6 via the trade, but I may have to scramble around to find #7. Oh well.

I'm probably not the best person to comment, seeing that half of my house is in DC Fanboistan and the other half in Marvel Fanboistan, but it feels pretty accessible to me. (Unlike 52, which no matter how much I like it, is in no way accessible to new or casual readers.)
I meant to mention that I picked up the new BB title solely because of the name recognition from this blog. I haven't been disappointed yet.
As for how accessible it is to non-DC wonks, my acquaintance with the DCU has been occasional and patchy -- I had to ask my local shop what exactly this whole Infinite Crisis thing was -- and I've liked the series just fine so far. My biggest problem was confusing one of the important characters with Guy Gardner (the tattoos made me think it was him back in his Warrior persona), but I got that sorted.
The focus on the people, not the suits, is what's keeping me interested, along with the occasional really witty exchange. I'm looking forward to picking up #8.
