It is funny, but I'm not sure if the humour will stand the trip over to the USA.
A lot of the things that made me chuckle were nostalgic things from my childhood. Back then we weren’t very ‘Americanised’ as a country (if I can use that term), so perhaps some of the gags and themes will be lost on people from outside the UK. For example (not really a spoiler), everyone from the UK older than about 25 will ‘know’ the girl that comes out of the TV, but everyone else will probably wonder at the significance.
It's undoubtedly well written and brilliantly performed, but as the series went on I couldn't shake the feeling that they had a great concept but weren't really sure what to do with it. The need to discover the nature of Sam's plight drifted in and out of the show rather too much for my taste. Should've been a self-contained mini-series, rather than a franchise, IMHO.
When I first saw the show, I had no idea what the show was about. I spent a good twenty minutes during the pilot episode with my jaw on the floor because of the amazing WTF factor.
Hey, John, any comment on NBC airing new webisodes of Nobody's Watching on Youtube?
It seemed brilliant and intuitive, right until I read that NBC had made a deal with Youtube to make sure nothing like the leaked pilot EVER HAPPENED AGAIN.
Because, you know, when you get a goose that lays golden eggs, the obvious thing to do is make gooseburgers.
Ha! You all finally get to see it. Enjoy what's been one of the few shows I'm proud to call British this year. For those needing a frame of reference, the little girl drawing was a BBC test transmission screen aired for many many years over here and the use made of it is stunning. Have fun, everyone. I, meanwhile, must seek out Eureka on bittorrent.

The show is a loving homage to The Sweeney which, let's not forget, was revolutionary because it was the first British cop show to ape the conventions of the US cop series. So we had car chases and punchups and a lot of cynical dialogue.
My favourite?
"We're the Sweeney and we haven't had our breakfast yet!"
Life On Mars does a great job of catching The Sweeney's vibe. Expect to hear a lot of 'guv' in the weeks ahead.
Oh, and I hear a US edition of Life on Mars is in the works. Any of you guys have any information on that?
