The story of the film is (at least loosely) based on the first game. The majority of the imagery was borrowed from the second. Being removed from that narrative context, said imagery has *absolutely no meaning*.
The acting is poor, the dialogue is cheesy, Sean Bean's character is quite obviously tacked on, and the story has about the depth of a petri dish.
Despite all this it's still probably the best videogame-to-film to date. That says alot about the genre.
I thought it was a lot of fun until Whiny Puritan Girl showed up. I just KNEW we were in trouble at that point ("we" the discerning audience, not "we" the characters in the movie and me.)
As far as the enviornment, sound, shooting, atmosphere and whole 'concept' of the silent hill world, it was wonderful.
While I understand Sean Penn's character's role as being the audience's 'connection' to the 'reality' that is silent hill (and I loved the inbetween when he and Rose are running through the school), I can't help but keep thinking that 'Christopher' was really an avatar of the director Christopher Gans.
I *LOVED* the nurse scene, and while my favourite character (Lisa Garland) was in it, although her 'famous' scene from the game wasn't in it, I liked what they did with her character.
I also loved all the pyramid head scenes, as they were the only real 'terrifying' aspects of the movie....which was the sad thing, it wasn't really a scary movie...(although the soundtrack couldn't help but keep you psychologically nervewrecked)
I agree, near the end, it just...neh. After watching it I kinda left the theater thinking...'What happened??? It...it had a plot, it had GOOD aspects...but...it....was ...missing something.'
The effects were great...just yeah, plot...weird...as the last 1/3 of the movie..just merh.
Totally unrelated, but thanks a lot for that post a little while ago about that program which opends PDFs significantly more quickly than Adobe. It is making my finals studying much much easier... that and I no longer have to deal with that stupid Adobe program.
Answer me this: what was the deal at the end? Were they dead/crossed over into the spirt world? And if they were, when did they die/cross over?
I think Wife and I figured it out as "they're dead, and that's why he can't see them" but the accident didn't seem nearly enough to have killed them...

That being said, I enjoyed the film. Yes, it was bad, but it was fun to look at and had some interesing moments.
My biggest beef with the film though was the fall of the cop. She swaggered onto the screen, letting us know that if there was ass to be kicked, you know it'd end up on the bottom of her boots. But then she's captured by three old guys dying of black lung who haven't eaten a proper meal since 1974. WTF?
But it was still fun. And pyramid head was nearly worth the price of admission himself.
Listen u idiots. i am fanatic abt SH coz i have played all SH parts 1 to 4. and I loved movie its scary (if u have watched in night with headphones on ur PC as i did). And above all u must play SH1 and SH2 of game then u will come to know what this movie is about. if u havent played SH1 and SH2 u are not worth to watch this movie and u wasted ur money and also u will and u got difficulty understanding story of movie. agree OR disagree i dnt give a damn, but this movie is an piece of art from a respected game. So have a piece of it.

No, not great, and the third act just goes insane. But that opening 2/3rds, very Fulci in tone and pacing.
