The DVD of Ask a Ninja, by the way, was a great example of short form writing structure and pretty goddam funny. I say pick it up.

ReplyDeleteAll kidding aside, it is waaaaaaayyy too early for this much snow. I came home from work on Friday to a freaking mountain at the end of the driveway left behind by the nice snowplow driver - who is Satan's Minion.
BTW, rev, I miss the Rough Riders/Renegades, too. At least Kerry Joseph is leading the Green Riders ...

ReplyDeleteNo, it's a harvest festival. Of course it's going to come earlier in a country where it starts getting colder earlier.
I live in a place where we had snow by Canadian Thanksgiving. Actually, we had it weeks before Canadian Thanksgiving. So what Ottawa has is nothing, really. I'm watching the bay freeze solid outside my living room window.
ReplyDeleteAlthough John might get a kick out of this. When I was in California last year and people asked when I lived, I said northern Canada (Nunavut gets blank looks). The response, invariably, was "Oh, you mean Toronto?"
Michigan was White as well on Thankgiving but by afternoon it had mostly melted.

ReplyDeleteMusic seems to have a big edge over film in the elimination of the distribution middle man. Any old band can hump their songs around bars to build some recognition and move to larger venues. The production cost of a song is comparatively cheap. Bands develop a following of loyal supporters, along with name recognition, and product familiarity. Then they sign a contract with a record company. When they are big enough they don't need a record company, because everybody knows them, and can just go to their website. They can buy a satisfying product based on expectations of the band, song previews, or listening to a free broadcast of a song.

I keep thinking of a couple of films that were made with Gina, and aren't getting distributed. Permanent Vacation and Zerophelia. I think Zerophelia might be available on NetFlicks, but their webpage says this is not yet available on DVD.
Do you think that a film that attempts internet distribution will be less likely to be distributed otherwise?
