Good news (other than I've finally put a spike in the chest of this script). As announced in Variety today and on BOOM!'s blog, Andy Cosby's Dark Horse comic Damn Nation has been optioned by MTV films.
Damn Nation got great reviews, and Cosby's on a hot streak. Actually , Cosby's been on a streak for a while. The first television show he ever wrote -- let me emphasize that, the very first time he put pen to paper in TV format -- was the pilot for his show HAUNTED, which ran on UPN. Not just shot, but ON AIR. You will never convince me that Matthew Fox's gritty (and more importantly, buzz-cut-hair) reinvention on that show didn't contribute to LOST folk taking a new look at him. The very next TV pilot he wrote was for his sci-fi mystery show EUREKA, which I believe is just about to get the pickup for next season. Again, not just a filmed pilot -- 2 for 2 on air, kids.
He's also now three movie scripts in, and I believe this is his first original property sale.
This is particularly sweet as Andy Cosby and Ross Richie were two of the first friends I made out here in LA. They were the producers on Matt Wagner's MAGE and hired me as first-guy-on for that project. It was only my second film gig, and was the one that really kicked me up into the pros. We worked on a whackload pf projects together, Cosby and I co-wrote a script (which I need to finish the rewrite on -- damn damn damn ...).
Now, instead of two producer friends, I have a producer and writer friend who ... no longer need me as their writer. Huh. Hadn't considered that. Bastards.
HAH! I was about to do one of my split-topic post but caught myself! No, we'll draft Mr. Cosby into the examples as I answer one of the writing questions I received. Update later. And congratulation again, to Andy and Ross. What's even better, everybody working on ZOMBIE TALES can now feel free to invoice Ross for payment as he's fat with mad movie cheddah!

Alien LOVED Predator
A big congratulations to Bernie over at one of my favorite webcomics, Alien Loves Predator, and his lovely wife. They just had twins, Rachel and Adrian. Go wish him well, plow through the archives, and drop a buck in the tip jar for the kids' college fund.
I've said it before, I'll say it again: Alien Loves Predator, incredibly, captures the real spirit of living in New York better than every episode of Seinfeld. Ever. Combined. Let the flaming commence.

Aforementioned changes ...
... are en-route. This script still clings to life, hydra-like. But to let you know what's up:
- I'll be splitting the sidebar up, with different slots for pro writers and not-quite-yet pro writers. So you can meet up, commiserate, and at the very least steal David Anaxagoras' progress bars for your blog.
-- Now that traffic's levelled out again, we'll be putting some fundraising buttons over to the right. I have absolutely no desire to soak you for cash for my own gain, but I will request that if you find something useful or amusing, you drop a coin in the tip jar for a better cause. It may actually wind up being a simple Paypal button and I'll announce what we're supporting for that week or two.
To start, we'll be rotating through some Veteran's Administration and Soldier's Aid sites at first, in honor of Phil Carter over at Intel Dump. I started reading Phil back in 2003, one of the first blogs I found. He served in the MP's (I want to say with 4th Mechanized, check his bio), came out, went to law school, and at the time was doing a great service in translating the DoD press releases on IraqWarII from "bullshit" to "this is what they mean when they say that." Phil passed the bar recently, and the deadly combo of military experience with legal training allowed him to craft one of the smartest, most relevant commentaries on the political and military world today. His site's been an every-day read for me. In the few e-mail exchanges we've had, he's been both encouraging and remarkable helpful.
Phil's also just been called back up. He's in transit now, with the 101st on his way to the Party That Never Ends. He asked that if we appreciate his work we help out with these causes, and so they'll be the first to go up once the code's done.
Seeing as the folks who are actually sending soldiers off to war can't seem to be bothered to armor them properly, give them the proper vehicles, and have voted down increased funding for their medical care THREE GODDAM TIMES, we'll do what little we can to pick up some slack and help out.

New Who

a.) Oddly, that pose of Billie Piper's is the exact same one Aimee Garcia struck in our GF picture. Is that some sort of default insouciance they teach at acting school?
b.) That's the style I was going for with the lead character on a new show idea. Well, I suppose those who don't watch Who won't know, and those who do will assume I'm homaging and appreciate the geek shout-out. Hmm, no loss there after all.
